Re: AA cliches

Probably. What they leave out is these segment of the story: They said, “We’ve got some bad news for you. It was bad news for us, and it will probably be bad news for you. Weather you quit six days, months, or years, if you go out and take a drink or two you’ll end up in the hospital tied down, just...

Re: AA cliches

Its all depends on the where the unfortunate member ends up with when he walks into the rooms of AA. If all the stars are aligned for him/her, he/she gets a sponsor who can guide them in the right direction. Thats all I can say. There are few other topics that will lead to endless contributions and ...

Re: Should I find a new sponsor?

He gets snappy and arrogant at the smallest things. I have been doing service at the detox centre every Saturday for 6 months to share my E,S,H, and have also started back in employment, which he doesn’t like. Ask him, if he is going to support you financially. When book says you will be intuitivel...

Re: Should I find a new sponsor?

I really see some control issues here. Would suggest find a compatible sponsor. The book suggest we do service work in spare time. Finding a balance between work and recovery is what we should strive for.

Re: Thyroid Cancer

My situation is bit different. My daughter was diagnosed with with 4th stage Hodgkin’s lymphoma in the liver. Initially it was a shock then slowly acceptance crept in. Instead of trying to control the situation we let the doctors run the show. After 5 months of being recovery my daughter showed sign...

Re: What's the point of meetings?

I suddenly get it, e-AA is like the island of misfit toys, an Internet island for misfit AAs whose ideas don't mesh with mainstream AA! =biggrin I apologize for disturbing your island of tranquility with offensive mainstream ideas. Interesting and glad you were able to sleep well after this last po...

Re: What's the point of meetings?

How do you keep your memory green? You dont have to go to a meeting to keep the memory green. Its actually a myth. You dont have to. You have deep deep realization that you are an alcoholic and work the 12 steps of AA that will take care of the sobriety part. Thats the 10 step promise. What we have...

Re: Conscious Contact

For me: the 3rd Step Prayer and reading/writing at our Daily Reflections post and (more recently) a reading Richard Rohr email from The Center For Action and Contemplation. With all that i think what is crucial is being very watchful of how we react when we are put in a delicate situation. We could...

Re: New member 4 years in

Sorry, I meant to say, we alcoholics need to do little more to overcome the restlessness, irritability and discontentedness. Thats were the 12 steps comes in. The chapters Bills story, There is a solution and More about alcoholism dwelve on the 1st step. How the spiritual malady leads us back into t...

Re: New member 4 years in

I’m struggling with feelings of monotony and don’t know where to turn so hoping to find a bit of comfort (?) or similar stories , So you never been to an AA meeting? Putting the plug in the jug works for most people. But if you are an alcoholic, there is something you have to deal with. Some call i...

Try changing it. You probably be ostracized. I brought it up with an old-timer when I was about 6 months sober, he had about 10 years then. Oh boy it was an in pleasant exchange.

Re: When is the last time you heard:

That deep realization that the book talks about, inner most self that we are an alcoholic and that we have to have a different way of living is very crucial. Once that occurs what we do everday to keep ourselves spiritually fit keeps us in a place of neutrality. That I agree we need to do till the l...

Untreated Alcoholism sucks, even while not being drunk.

Re: Can’t be honest to my sponser

I wasted the first 4 months just going to meetings and hearing all the cliches. Then I heard the message of AA from these workshops. My HP lead me to a group that was going through the 4 step JC style at that exact time and one of the guys handed me the worksheet and a CD of some AAer. Using those w...

You recognize the quote you threw is from "Into Action"? The progression of the steps is at the end of Chapter 5 "How it works" you have your inventory. They talk about digesting big truths about ourselves. And in chapter "Into Action" it starts off: "Having made a...
