Re: AA cliches

I guess “one day at a time” alongside the steps is ok. For me, I need to work my programme daily to remain sober, so from that POV, odaat is true enough, though I never think of my sobriety in those terms. If I had depended on odaat only, without the steps, I would never have lasted 13 days, never m...

Re: Conscious Contact

Thanks Paige.
For me, as a Catholic, I recite the Liturgy of the Hours daily - Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer and Night Prayer.
Prior to MP, I do exactly as mentioned above from P86.
Before NP, I examine my conscience, followed by Act of Contrition.
It appears to be working.

Re: New member 4 years in

Hi Chenn Welcome. I’m 13 yrs sober and I have never attended a face to face meeting. I have remained sober by doing exactly what the book suggests - the 12 steps - and by living exactly as the book describes. This forum has been my group for most of that time. It seems to be working as I have zero i...

Re: Why is cigarette smoking so widely accepted by AA members

I feel like the issue is not our business.
I gave up smoking at the same time as drinking. Others did not, others stopped smoking later, some continue to smoke... not my business. It’s not so much a “lack of disapproval” as a “couldn’t care less” 😉

Re: Dull pressure above liver

I have nothing to add but I feel it’s important to underline what others have advised - see a doctor.

Re: Step 4 'Where were we to blame' 4th column

Isn’t this based on the importance of recognition of the fact that, if we look closely enough, we will see that these resentments were at least partly of our own making (I don’t have the book to hand for the exact wording)? Leading on from this we are focussing upon writing down our own inventory, a...

Re: I don't know where to start

Hi and welcome to the group. I looked on myself as a “functional alcoholic” for years. I came to the realisation there’s no such thing. I’m an alcoholic, plain and simple. Like you though, I was functioning fairly well on some levels. I paid the bills. I had my family, my job. No DUIs, no record. Bu...

Her “drink problem” would not concern me unless she asked me to help.

Re: Denial???

Hi MrsC. Welcome to the group 😁 I just have a couple of thoughts that might help you figure out where you’re at. All the stuff that you wrote about in your post, all the stuff you think about your drinking, the fact that you “tried AA” - normal drinkers never give any of that stuff a single thought....

Welcome.
A support system is great. But, the 12 steps are what got me sober and have kept me happily so for 13 years now 😁😁👍

Re: Sponsorship/ Group Worries... Feeling disconnected from the fellowship. Really need help

Hi AnonAddict. Well, what I did was exactly what those guys in the book did. Those 12 steps as they are laid out there. I did them quickly but honestly and thoroughly, with help where needed. Then, and since then, I’ve tried to live as the book describes. It’s still working after 13 years. If you wa...
