Re: AA cliches

I, personally, have no problem with the slogan "One Day at a Time" as it has the same meaning to me as "First Things First" reminding me not to project to far into the uncertainties of tomorrow. I guess it all depends on the context one takes the slogan in. Having said that howev...

Re: 5th June Daily Reflection

the difference between "the boys and the men" is the difference between striving for a self-determined objective and for the perfect objective which is of God. Today's Daily Reflection brings to mind a thought found in the 12x12 "Therefore it seems plain that few of us can quickly or...

Re: 4th June Daily Reflection

I don't have much to say on the topic of today although I whole hardheartedly agree with the message. However, I would like to thank Brock and other moderators for all the work they have put into keeping this site up and running. Thank You.

Re: What's the point of meetings?

Blessed be to all of you who contributed here. We can agree to disagree on many matters in life. I think we all agree that working the Steps of the AA program is the way to long term sobriety. Gonna give this 24/36 hours - then I think a Moderator can lock it. I am out of town tomorrow and will be ...

Patsy and Still sober. Just a suggestion ...... How about the two of you carry on your debate thru the private message option of this forum. That should work unless your intent of carrying on this debate is like the lyrics in the song titled Raino" suggests...... "If there ain't no audienc...

Re: 24th May Daily Reflection

Sometimes it is not even mine to deal with and I must set it aside. This happens a lot for me when my adult children make mistakes and I want to rush in and help them. "Not my circus!" I can certainly relate to that scenario. "Here's the part that sticks in my craw: but if trouble co...

Re: 24th May Daily Reflection

But it is clear that we made our own misery. There is no doubt that at times life can throw me a curve ball. Sometimes I'm just dealt a bad hand through no fault of my own. Some times "life just happens." But then there are times when I seem to create my own misery. And, the truth is that...

Re: When is the last time you heard:

I need to remember whenever I am reacting to or angrily mulling over another person/thing that there is an equally valid other side to it all and that’s ME and my state of mind, attitudes and emotional unhealthyness. The ME side of the picture is the thing to be dwelled upon and doing so releases a...

Intelligence is not incompatible with humility, provided I place humility first. I appreciate that the writer clarifies the fact that intelligence is not incompatible with humility, provided we place humility first. There is a saying that comes to mind along the lines of "the more you know the...

Re: 22nd May Daily Reflection

When I was drinking all I could ever think about was "I, I, I," or "Me, Me, Me." Such painful obsession of self, such soul sickness, such spiritual selfishness bound me to the bottle for more than half my life. When I first entered AA I heard a lot of discussion on egotism. I co...

Thanks for your reply Brock. I read a bit of your reply and because I have to run some errands in the next bit I will get back to it later today or tomorrow. Just wanted you to know I appreciated the time you took to post your reply. After I give it your post a full and focused read I will get back ...

Re: Twenty Four Hours A Day May 21st

The only qualm I really have about the 24 hour a Day book is the meditation for the day part. It is just way to religious sounding for myself to get my head around. Words like "Lord" and "obedience to a heavenly vision" ru bs me the wrong way. So I googled who wrote the book and ...

Fantasies like, "If I get a puppy it could get hit my car and that would be heartbreaking. I will have to start a pet cemetery!" vs the reality "If I get a puppy I should plan for a fence around my yard & save money for that." If I can relate to that first sentence..... Fant...

Re: 20th May Daily Reflection

Above all, take it one day at a time. — AS BILL SEES IT, p. 11 So simple a concept and yet, at times, so hard to practice. Most likely reason being that we all worry about what the future holds for us. Most people seem to feel that if they worry about something that could happen in the future they ...

Re: Why is cigarette smoking so widely accepted by AA members

When I told my sponsor I was thinking of quitting smoking she warned me that IF it became to much to SMOKE and not drink! Good advice. In my case, the time range gave me more energy to focus on the drink problem. Quitting any habit takes a lot of focus, mental energy and discipline. Focus, energy, ...
