Re: AA cliches

Even after many years of living sober my life is still day by day. I start the day with a prayer asking God for sobriety for that day and at night thank God for that sober day. I say morning prayers and before I sleep at night time I review the day like the steps on the step 10 and eleven pages of t...

The AA way, the path of happy destiny.

I'm reflecting back today, 45 years ago, to my first AA meeting. No words can describe my gratitude for the way the AA program of recovery is laid out in the book Alcoholics Anonymous and for the help I was given by AA members. I'm a little awed when I think about the ability I had to accept and fol...

Re: Listerine DUI

Several things are possible as far as the truth about her drinking intentions, or was it cleaning her mouth? So, no use surmising really. I know I drank vanilla extract (high percent alcohol), listerine, and cooking brandy. All of them awful stuff, but then again I didn't drink alcohol for the taste...

Re: I need advice..pls read my story :/

Hi cat, welcome to e-aa. I hope you can control your drinking and you could be right in feeling that you can. =biggrin If you find that you can't stop if you want to and admit you're powerless to just drink as much as you think is the right amount then contact an AA group near you and find another p...

Re: Walking out of a meeting

The idea of someone progressing into a real alcoholic seems strange to me probably because I was unable to control my drinking from the very start and I began to drink almost every day from the start. Black outs and benders were also what I experinced from the start and I started young, 16 years old...

Re: What's the spiritual principle of step 3?

The spiritual principle of step 3 is complete dependence on God ( as we understand that) rather than upon ourselves or any other human 'power'.

Re: First meeting

Welcome Anew day!

Not everybody goes to outpatient treatment. I didn't, I got sober through going to the meetings, getting a few phone numbers of women in the group and calling them, listening to how they stopped drinking and taking the advice of ones I trusted. It works!

Re: Hypocrites in AA

I lived in Ireland for a year and the pub culture permeates in a way I could never have known or understood had I not lived some time there. So, if I still lived in Ireland I would probably go to meetings as often as possible and keep a very low profile and make if my main goal to just listen to tho...

@positrac. I'm so glad my experience was good for you. Sometimes even these so called negative experences can turn out to be useful in AA. Thanks for letting me know that.

Re: Forgiving myself for hurting others

I found that, even making amends to the best of my ability, that there were some in my family that never were able to accept them and weren't able to forgive me. Even after many years of sobriety there was still that grudge of unrsolved hatred. I got sober at age 24 and been sober ever since. I'm 68...

Re: New Person

Great going Stu! Get aquainted with anyone you feel comfortable talking to, make phone calls to them whenever you get feeling down, irritable or like taking a drink. Glad you let us know your experience with first meetings! :)
