Club House section?

Postby PaigeB » Thu Jul 30, 2015 1:12 pm

It would be nice if we had an area that was separately password protected, or some such way that we could put photographs if we wished. When we all contribute on the forums a bit of the pen pal feeling comes into play, it would be nice I think to “see” each other. Perhaps a section called “The Club House” or something, where members who have been around a while could be invited to have a separate password, just thinking out loud, I don’t know enough about computers to say if this can easily be done.

I thought this was a great idea and thought I would pass it along. Hoping also that the new upgrades make it easier to post a picture!

I feel it would be best for this group to stay away "club house" like appearances.
I would lean against any thing that appears like face-book as well.
Through PMs other connections can be done outside this Group.

That is only my opinion... of course, I always respect group conscience.

I agree with Todd that for the group to have a “club house” appearance is not wanted, and something resembling face-book no way. But if in the same way the men only and women only members apply for ‘membership,’ and especially if a general membership of a few months was part of the criteria, then one section named “club house” or something like “getting to know you” should not be a problem.

I don’t expect folks will fill it up with photos of themselves only, but it would be nice to see a little more of what we do, maybe where our favorite meetings are, things of general interest. Those whose anonymity or privacy is more important just don’t join, and of course if it proves to be problematic or unpopular we just shut it down.

I understand that PM’s could do the job, but really sending a PM to someone here asking for a photo has a slightly creepy feeling, precisely because we are asking for more information on a person, as opposed to it being given freely.

Yes, I had to dig though my previous posts.
We all posted pictures of our pets in one forum years back.
It does take several steps to upload a file, and then insert it into a post.
Drag and drop would be cool.

But I don't think the new software we are looking at has anything
to do with how the Forums run now.

This Forum software is embedded into website as a stand alone system.

It sounds like an idea worth trying in some form although I probably won't use it. The internet scares me a bit and I'm very cautious about what I put on it regardless of website security assurances.

Drag & drop would be nice, but then I would post more pics of my pets... what would the spammers post?

As far as the photos go -- the e-AA group had at one time a photo section. E-AA members were given the password. Since anyone can be a member (just like anyone can register here), there were concerns at one time when I posted the pics of my children. One member wasn't trustworthy and a friend worried that my kids would end up on some porn site.

Basically, we're an online site. We don't exclude people. We're an A.A. meeting. Would you show up at a meeting and show off your photos? Heck no.

If you want to share your photos, use Facebook. That's what it's for.

We can try and imagine what each person looks like from our pets?
