"Cheers" Theme

Postby Hullabaloo » Tue Feb 06, 2007 6:28 pm

Just to lighten the mood a bit.

I'm sure most everyone is familiar with the old sitcom, Cheers. (It's set in a bar, so of course it had our attention from the beginning, right?!)

Anyway, the other day while reading The Big Book, an episode was on in the background. The lyrics jumped out at me! If you listen to them, they could just as easily be related to and describe an AA meeting.

Ironic, that a theme as simple as this from an 80's TV show that I have heard a thousand times before, could so quickly take on a completely new meaning in my sober life.

From looking in every bar for a place to belong, to a meeting among fellows, I will be forever grateful to God that I finally found what I was looking for.

Thanks for letting me share.

Making your way in the world today
Takes everything you've got;
Taking a break from all your worries
Sure would help a lot.
Wouldn't you like to get away?

All those night when you've got no lights,
The check is in the mail;
And your little angel
Hung the cat up by it's tail;
And your third fiance didn't show;

Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came;
You want to be where you can see,
Our troubles are all the same;
You want to be where everybody knows your name.

:lol: HI! Wil, alcoholic; Yes, I agree whole heartedly! I had considered this before but had never written about it. (Thought that I was the only one to see the similarities) Glad that you did! Ironic, yes, but soooo true, in particular the line about "our troubles are all the same".

Also, If you happen to see the show again. You can play a good soberity game... You can try to list all the troubles that alcohol is causing the patrons of cheers. Some can drink without worry, or reprisal. Others thier life is in total shambles. Thier is even one charcter in soberity!
