Question: "If...God gave us free will, why...do God's will?"

Because we do not have the power to make our own will actually happen -- We do not have the power or ability to manage our own lives successfully (Step One) -- and our Maker does not seem interested in providing the power we would need in order to do that. Having free will is about having freedom to choose whether to serve ourselves or our Maker, not about empowerment for successful self-reliance.

I don't think that is an uncommon thing to happen, I have heard it in meetings quite a few times.

I hope you keep faith in the AA program, and keep moving forward in the steps, it's from these we get a spiritual awaking. Looking for something like faith didn't work very well for me, it comes with the program, and now it's just an accepted part of life which I couldn't do without. Praying and faith to me are separate things, when I was young I was made to attend church and say prayers, those were prayers without faith. Today I can see recovered contented alcoholics and have faith the program works, or some nice things in nature and have faith that I am not alone.

Please feel free to keep in touch with us, and let us know how you are doing.

AA is merely exercising it's own free will to exhort it's members to choose a certain path. Whether the members chose to heed this advice is also freewill. Why choose AA? A chance at a healthy hopeful life.
