I'm puzzled why anyone in AA would think that a middle-aged newcomer would *not* act like a child having a tantrum. The key word being "newcomer", not "age". We see it all the time, even among some who've been around for years but somehow skipped the "recovery" bit.

All I can do is stay sane, keep busy, maintain peace of mind, and be sure I actually understand the Steps that I would presume to lead someone else through. If someone doesn't want it or isn't willing to do what it takes, I can't help them achieve it no matter whether I want to.

I agree, Ian. In the thread, "Faith, a belief outside of me" that is exactly what I was saying about sobriety and well-being, being an inside job. Without willingness and open mindedness, a person won't get well no matter how hard we work to try to help them.
