Chapter Three is devoted entirely to Step one, Chapter Four is devoted to Step Two, Chapter Five introduces us to the rest of the Steps, with instructions for Step Three beginning on page sixty.

The steps are in the BB, however, I would suggest having a sponsor to work you through them. I also had my sponsor tell me to read the 12 and 12 as we worked through the steps.

I could not stay sober reading or doing meetings only.

Hope this helps.

My sponsor is strictly by the book he maid me start at the doctors opinion and when i got to the 3rd step prayer in How it Works he asked me asked me the first to steps and i agreed then we went from there i took the third step and at once did an inventory then admitted to him and god and myself my wrongs then i was ready to have him remove my defects of character so i did my seventh step with a God of my understanding i had my eight step from doing the fourth and i started working on my amends now i pray in the mourning pause throughout my day to check myself pray at night before i go to bed and try to help another alcoholic along the way. Who would of thought those 12 steps that are in the first 164pgs would keep us sober let alone a much happier existance.

These are AA's 12 Steps, linked to our own Step studies we've gradually been doing here at the e-AA group's forums.

1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol - that our lives had become unmanageable.

2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.

9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs

It is important to get a sponsor that has worked the steps themselves from the Big Book. The 12x12 is just a commentary to give us a prespective and has helpful ideas.
