New "kid", back on the block

Post by AADIVER » Wed Jul 05, 2006 11:05 pm

The following is part fact, part fiction, and all of it's true:

My name's Frank and my problem is booze,
Tried drinkin' normal, just a couple o' brews,
Became a couple o' cases...kicked my butt...I was totally wasted.

So I came to AA, started trudgin' the road,
Checkin' out meetings, trying to unload
All those bad feelings inside...eatin' me up...but I was Jekyll and Hyde.

I tried sharin' honest, but pride tripped me up,
I was shuckin' and jivin' like a young newbie pup...tellin' lies...full of denial...not very wise.

But if you had my problems you'd drink, too.
Deep, deep in debt, old lady flew,
Told me she'd had it...couldn't take any more...I felt like two bits.

So I drowned those bad feelings in Budweiser Lites,
Case after case through long, lonely nights.
Worked for awhile...couple o' months...still in denial.

Then one awful morning I woke up in jail,
Seems I'd been drinkin' and raisin' some hell.
Yelled at a cop...flipped him the bird...he gave me a pop.

An angry old judge looked me straight in the eye,
Said "Sober up NOW or I'll put you on ice".
Gave me six months probation...dehydration...ego deflation.

I've been trudgin' this road now for 24 years,
Except for time out for a few hundred beers.
Pretty damn dumb...AA and drinkin'...a real alky bum.

So take it from me, a beat up ex drunk,
Grab ahold of this program or you're definitely sunk,
Headin' for hope in sight...except:
God as you'd better understand Him...or else!
Keep comin' back.
Frank F.

Well.... I don't know how to respond to that lol!

Thanks for making me smile, Frank.
