You got a new alcoholic here

Postby Dean R » Wed Sep 23, 2015 4:08 pm

Hi folks! I am new to this forum as well as being an AA member. How new? On September 26, 2015 will be my 9 month birthday. Great people I keep on meeting and am able to relate with others that are alcoholics. During my drinking days it was all denial. Today I can except the fact that I am an alcoholic. It took me one heck of a long time to realize I am an alcoholic but, I am. I am also 57 years old. So, I did something about it. Well...here I am. Thank you A.A..

Hi Dean, Welcome. Congratulations on 9 months. Like you I was late to the table, 56 in my case. A 56 year old who had never grown up or developed past 14 years of age. Learning to be an adult in AA is a rollercoaster ride and loving it. 7 years of real living one day at a time has revealed much about me and to me regarding the real world, not my fictional one  Thanks to true friends in AA.
Look forward to hearing more from you.
Don't know exactly where I am going but I'm on my way and it's already much better than where I've been.

Welcome Dean. If we had a bet going on who came in latest I would be ahead by a nose over yourself and Robert, I finally accepted AA at 60. I had two ‘tries’ at it about age 40 and again around 50, but was doing that to please others or really just to keep my wife from complaining so much. Now I have a little over six years of happiness I could have had years ago, but things happen when the time is right. Nice to have you here this is a good addition to any AA program.
