Interesting/funny quotes/sayings you have heard in the rooms

Postby sarah64fl » Sat Sep 21, 2013 6:35 pm

I usually bring a notebook to my meetings and have a (somewhat small but growing) collection of quotes or interesting things said in meetings. I'll share one I heard tonight that I could relate to.
"The only time I refused a drink was because I misunderstood the question."

Looking forward to hearing others :D

I once said something when I was new to an old timer which began with "In my opinion...", and he stuck a finger in my chest and (JOKINGLY) said "The only opinion in the Big Book is the Doctors!"
Come, come, whoever you are. Wanderer, worshiper, lover of leaving. It doesn't matter. Ours is not a caravan of despair. Come, even if you have broken your vows a thousand times. Come, yet again, come, come.” Rumi (No sniggering from the sex addicts)

A comment I used to hear all the time is
"Everything's subject to change without notice." and of course " Became unduly alarmed"

Thanks John D

A friend of mine (who graduated Sober to whatever's next in May) was known for his adaptation of the Power Company's slogan.

He would advise his sponsees..."Call before you Dig"

One of my favorites is "I never suffer as much as when trying to avoid suffering"

Thx...Tommy

We had a fellow who recently passed on who was always bringing new ones to us. Some of my favorites are:

About spirituality/tenth step, “They should teach this S*** in first grade.”

“Don’t know sick ‘em from come here.”

“How the cow eats the cabbage. Slowly, one day at a time.”

“That’s like tryin’ to stretch a gnat’s ass over a rain barrel.”

“He was just giving me some chin boogie.”

“You don't know whether you're playin’ the banjo or talking to a goose.”

“There is no such thing as a slip, It's just premeditated carelessness.”

My personal favorite is the simple "Nothing changes if nothing changes."
"If you are humble nothing will touch you, neither praise nor disgrace, because you know what you are.", Mother Teresa

I am pretty sure I heard this one from Tommy-S:
"We don't shoot our wounded."

I like: "You can't fix a broken tool with a broken tool"

Having a little Alanon in me also: "Don't sweat the small stuff & it is ALL small stuff!"

I don't like that one. You 'Mericans give your wounded a medal. We British give our wounded remedial field craft lessons because they were obviously daft enough to get hurt. If they're lucky, they may get a 'sick note' excusing them arduous duties for a short period.

There are many things that I have heard in the rooms that I thought were funny. However, because of the issue that someone else raised earlier, I am keeping my own counsel. Which isn't to say that I don't have a sense of humor or that I'm being a stick in the mud. :D Just practicing what works for me.

" I am the self-appointed master of non-acceptance". (That's an anonymous quote I once heard in a meeting). I liked it, because it sounded familiar, for some reason.
"Nothing comes to stay. Everything comes to pass".
