20th August 2003. I remember it well :)

On the morning of that day, I felt excited about going to my first AA meeting in 10 years but as I drove to it, this excitement was replaced by fear and anxiety and thoughts about doing anything other than go to a meeting filled my head.

I arrived at the venue early and seeing some people sitting on a wall outside, plucked up the courage to go and say hello and to ask: "Are you going to the meeting here at 1.00 pm ?" They said “yes”. Then, one member of the group introduced himself and began to tell me about his drinking history and efforts to stay sober. As I listened to him, I began to feel more at ease and to again start looking forward to the meeting.

During it, one member chose a reading from the book "As Bill Sees it" . He chose the passage "Can we choose" which includes the statement:

"Yet, we finally did make choices that brought about our recovery".

I've no regrets about choosing to return to AA :)
