I need a sponsor urgently

Most of us who recovered with AA's program did so with the help of a "sponsor". But what is sponsorship? How do I get one? Who can be a sponsor? What makes a good sponsor?

I need a sponsor urgently

Post by aslhjsd » Mon Dec 03, 2012 11:11 pm

Hello, I have 3.5 years sober. My sponsor has not been calling me back and I need someone to talk to as soon as possible. I have been taking meds for a neck injury (as prescribed) but I just need someone to talk to about it because obviously I am having anxiety about it.

I asked another alcoholic recently for some suggestions for the first step, after going to some meetings for a few weeks and 'shopping around'. I got his number and told him I'd call him back (I'll plan on doing so by the end of this week). On this web site you can request a temporary online sponsor, which I did a week or so back, and I got an e-mail from somebody shortly thereafter with some good info.
Good luck with the prescribed medications and anxiety, OP. There's a wealth of experience in the network of the A.A. fellowship, and I'm sure somebody will have the right answer for your situation if you seek it out, like you are. It's a spiritual program, so maybe try praying/meditating for the answers to your situation as well.
(btw, OP: you posted your thread post on 11:11. Cool synchronistic beans)

There are some cool workshops on the big book and are freely available on the internet at Xa-speakers. One of the I like the most is the Joe and Charlie workshop especially the history, bill story, there is a solution, more about alcoholism, we agnostics, how it works segments. For a new comer their 4th step could be bit drawn out. But if you are looking for strong 1st, 2nd and 3rd step knowledge these are the ones.
Show him, from your own experience, how the peculiar mental condition surrounding that first drink prevents normal functioning of the will power (Alcoholics Anonymous, Page 92)

Hi;
I'm Marc and I'm Alcoholic.
You can get started with Step Stuff right here on this forum.
Go take a look at the step study threads and post some of your step stuff in there.

Hi,

What do you need to talk about?

Some types of meds can throw me a little off-beam ... as can some types of pain.

Or it may be some type of reaction... Talk to your DOCTOR :)

There's a guy at a meeting I frequent locally, he had been several years sober, but was diagnosed with colon cancer. He had it treated with chemotherapy and it ran him down, not just physically but spiritually. It was very sad. He began abusing his pain medication and although he didn't drink, he understands the situation and he ended up booking himself into a rehab for it. He's recovered from his colon cancer btw!

I have no personal experience with this kind of thing, so I apologise for sharing someone else's experience; I hope you find someone to chat with. My own sponsor travels abroad frequently with work so I use a close circle of some A.A. friends I have; which includes sponsees too. I have sponsees who I sometimes think could be my sponsor!!

I hope all turns out okay. Oh, I've also used this forum too and dumped whines and problems here. It led to some interesting posts I think.
