The following is on the agenda of the indicated committee for consideration at the 51st General Service Conference meeting to be held in New York City, April 22 through 28. It is on the agenda because it was thought worthy of AA-wide discussion.
Literature Committee
Item: Discuss whether to include a new Preface in the Fourth Edition of the Big Book to replace the Preface on page xi of the Third Edition, which was not written by Bill W., keeping in mind the 1995 Conference Advisory Action that reads, "The first 164 pages of the Big Book, Alcoholics Anonymous, the Preface, the Forewords, 'The Doctor's Opinion,' 'Doctor Bob's Nightmare,' and the Appendices remain as is."
Do you feel that a new Preface to the Fourth Edition should replace the Preface to the Third Edition? Or, should the Third Edition Preface be retained (even though it wasn't written by Bill W.) and the new Fourth Edition Preface be added?
[This message has been edited by Dean C (edited 03-12-2001).]
