The following is on the agenda of the indicated committee for consideration at the 51st General Service Conference meeting to be held in New York City, April 22 through 28. It is on the agenda because it was thought worthy of AA-wide discussion.
Literature Committee
Item: Discuss suggested changes to the Fourth Edition approval process.
It has been suggested that prior to approving the Fourth Edition of the book "Alcoholics Anonymous" that all Conference members be allowed to review a draft copy.
The draft copy would include both the proposed new stories and those carried forward from the Third Edition.
Do you favor this suggestion: "If the Conference Literature Committee recommends approval, the Conference will consider approval of the manuscript as a whole?" And "that the Conference will not consider motions to alter any or part of the manuscript; the vote will be a simple 'yes, we approve,' or 'no, this cannot be approved'?"
Or, would you favor a request "that the Fourth Edition of the the Big Book not be considered for approval unless a review process for all Conference members is established?"
[This message has been edited by Dean C (edited 03-12-2001).]
