mehmet
Recovery begins with a decision to change the insanity. The next step is an AA meeting. A meeting been suggested to you before, and the reason is....we have found AA meetings to be a crucial part of recovery. If AA didnt work, the rooms would be empty. BUT THEY ARE NOT :-) My suggestion to you is.... Find an AA meeting and give it a try my friend.

Mehmet,

there are about a million meetings in New York. Please do yourself a favor. Don't drink the rest of today and go to a meeting tonight. Get a schedule and go again tomorrow. SInce it will be Saturday go in the morning.

Recovery is possible, and with sobriety you will learn what to do with all the unpleasant memories you have.

Hi Mehmet,

At the end of my drinking, I stank. I lived in a 1-bedroom flat where mouldy wallpaper was peeling off the walls, silverfish crawled across the carpets and used my plates as bedding, the carpets were threadbare, my clothes were mouldy and stank of stale urine, and my bedding stank of stale sweat. I reinvented panty-liners because I never knew where or when the next bout of diarrhoea was going to happen.

But that wasn't the worst of it. The worst was, alcohol stopped working for me. I was getting drunk, but still feeling. And the overwhelming feeling was anger. A burning rage inside, I wanted everyone dead. My ex-, I wanted her to be crushed in her car by a large fuel tanker, complete with a big explosion just to make sure.

Alcohol no longer numbed the pain.

Yet until we're done drinking, we're not done drinking. We get to the point of feeling it can get no worse, yet it can get worse! Much worse. Hideously worse. Permanent insanity with no hope of death in sight is how much worse it can get. Nobody in this forum has ever been to that point. Nobody in an AA meeting has such damage. Insane asylums, not AA meetings, is where we'd find such people.

But it doesn't have to get that bad for any of us. Looks to me like you've had enough of feeling the way you feel. Alcohol doesn't work any more, does it? If it did, you'd not be looking and feeling like something the cat threw up.

There is another way. If any alcoholic is willing to do exactly what is suggested yet feels no better after 6 months, I'll willingly buy them a drink.

It works if we work it.

So if you want to get and stay sober, you need to put down the alcohol. Instead, buy loads of fruit juice, soda, and sweets (mints and chocolate worked well for me!). Do what sober alcoholics did.

If you're ever in northern NJ, give me a shout and we can get to a meeting. But nobody can make another take the actions they need to take, I can only say what worked for me and what I know can work for you. Don't believe it? That's fine, we don't need to believe anything, we just need to do it.

Of course, if you'd rather drink and go for the permanent insanity option, that's up to you. It really is a choice, not over whether or how much we can drink, but over what we choose to do about sobriety.

I've been sober around 5 1/2 years. Life's not perfect, but it no longer has to be. I have a soul again. I no longer need the rest of the world dead, and I no longer see my worst enemy every time I look in the mirror.

As it turned out, letting go of the alcohol was a tiny price to pay for the peace of mind recovery has given me.

Do you want the same peace of mind? Are you willing to do whatever it takes to get it?

Mehmet,it seems you are advertising your drinking
"here i am ,a drunk ,you guys do something"
you are NOT listening to anybody you are NOT doing anything. Only YOU CHOSE TO DRINK AND ONLY
YOU CHOSE TO STOP.You can post on this link as much and as often as you want ,it won't stop you from drinking. It seems you are trying to show all of us how drunk you are. We are non't impressed.Do NOT drink today and go to a meeting.

Today as you come to life and feel like Joe Sh1t the rag man full of remorse and wanting so hard to not do the same thing over again as yesterday. Free will is yours to herd any which way you desire and if you are in the city as others have mentioned then meetings are every place.

As easy it is to fall back on drinking and it is equally easy to wonder into the rooms of AA as yu are not alone and or unique. You have nothing to lose and so much to gain by trying something different.

Be well

Welcome Willow. If you are like other 'normal' people you can have a few drinks as a source of relaxation, in some AA rooms we have a sign which says something like 'one is too much and one hundred not enough,' it reminds us that alcoholics can not stop at one or two drinks. If you ever find yourself in the position that you struggle to moderate or control the amount you drink once you start, going to the nearest AA meeting or asking for further advise here will save you are lot of heartache, for many of us it saved our life.

Thank you Blue Moon for sharing, that is a great thing to be reminded of in times of doubt!
