New to AA? Got questions? Here's the place to ask. Note that no one person speaks "officially" for AA. AA meetings in your local area are always the best source of information. Note that anyone may post and reply to messages in this forum.

I've never been to a face to face AA meeting. Although I think this forum helps me understand somewhat what they may be like. A good friend of mine started AA and that got me to look at how I view the whole alcohol issue. I started monitoring and moderating my alcohol use in April and and have decided to at least stop having any alcohol for 30 days to see how that feels. I am on day 17 now and am happy to say that I don't miss it. When I read what so many have gone through because of alcohol, it makes me realize how irresponsible I had been with it's use in the past. I decided to start now, changing bad habits that I have had over the past 30 years. "I know" a bit late, but I'm glad I decided to look back on past alcohol use and realized that I wasn't paying attention to the effects of too consuming too much! It's got my attention now! Hope you are doing well.

Thanks Michael. I hope many read your post. It is real life, just put right out there. I'd never thought about things getting so bad for so many people. I used to think it was the really cool, social thing to socially drink. Everyone did it and many of my friends still do. I don't know if I will drink moderately after my 30 days or who knows, I may decide not to drink at all. One thing is for sure, my eyes are wide open now. Reading your post reconfirms what I have come to realize about alcohol use. Its very serious business! Nothing to take lightly! I'm so glad you are doing well now.

Hi Michael,

Just a quick note to wish you a good weekend. I'm looking forward to a totally alcohol free weekend at the beach here in NC. First time I have been back to one of our X-favorite drinking spots. Just a few months ago we would all have been irresponsible in consuming alcohol. This weekend there will just be a good-sober time --- and no hangovers! ;~)
