Re: Starting a new AA group

Hi Mercles,

Way to go! That sounds like an awesome idea. I've only been sober for 5 days and I've only been to 3 AA meetings so I can't offer much other than moral support. So, good luck!

Re: Hello

Hi Ladybird, I was having the same problem with Thanksgiving this year. I had commited to go to my brother's house for Thanksgiving. I will be staying there the whole weekend. My mother will be there as well as my brother's wife. They are all heavy drinkers. Thinking about how I'm going to deal with...

Re: How do I know if step 1 is done?

Thanks Lee. I'm still studying the BB. It's sort of become my Bible. I read it every day and I'm been listening to the Joe and Charlie mp3's every day. At my meeting last night that was a young woman visiting our group. Her home group meeting conflicted with a baseball game she wanted to watch so sh...

How do I know if step 1 is done?

Hi, my name is Rusty, and I'm an alcoholic. So, real life is hard for me to deal with. I'm working on it. I'm going to try to find a f2f sponsor. I'm going to another meeting tonight. But in the mean time could you guys help me out? I think I've completed the first step. How do I know if I've actual...

Re: Question About Meetings

You know what? You guys are awesome. Thank you for your kind, rational replies. You don't know how much it means to me. I'll see if I can hit up some other meetings. I will keep going to meetings somehow and some way. I'll also ask around and see if I can find someone who knows the BB and the 12 Ste...

Question About Meetings

Hi, I attended my second meeting last night. It was a Big Book study. We went around the room, each person read one or two paragraphs and told about how they could relate to it. The thing was, it was a reading selection from the back of the book and it was a story about a guy who drank, was a biker,...

Re: First Meeting

Thanks for the words of encouragement everyone. I stayed up late last night reading. I made it all the way through chapter 3. It's a really good book. I couldn't put it down.

Re: First Meeting

Thanks Tosh. I listened to a talk given by Chris R this morning. He's definitely passionate. I'll look for Clancy too. I'll spend the rest of my lunch break reading that leaflet. Lee, thanks for the vote of confidence. I wasn't sure about things, your comment helped me make up my mind. I will call h...

Re: First Meeting

It really meant a lot to me that they gave the Big Book to me. I was going to buy one either way but the fact that they gave it to me made it feel special. No one asked me about sponsorship. Maybe they want to see if I'll come back. I wonder if a lot of people go just for one meeting. I felt great a...

First Meeting

So I went to my first meeting today. The speaker noticed I was a new guy and asked the group if there was anyone coming to their first AA meeting. I raised my hand. So she turned the meeting into a newcomer meeting. She asked for volunteers to talk about what brought them to AA. They mostly talked a...

Thanks for the welcomes all. I'm planning on buying a Big Book tonight. I can see from looking over the forums that it's really important.

Re: Thanksgiving for Newcomer with Drinking Family

Thanks for the support everyone. I'm planning on buying the Big Book tonight at my first meeting. I'll also try to find "Living Sober". I was feeling pretty sorry for myself this morning. I talked to another recovering alcoholic on the phone, and wow, it really helps to talk to someone who has been ...

Re: Thanksgiving for Newcomer with Drinking Family

Thanks Ann and Avaneesh. I'll try not to worry about Thanksgiving for now. Honestly, worrying about making it through this morning is enough for me to handle. I can't imagine not having the desire to drink right now. I've cried twice this morning already and it's only 7:12 am. But I'm going to make ...

Thanksgiving for Newcomer with Drinking Family

Hi, I just quit drinking 48 hours ago and right now I'm trying to focus on day-by-day, right now I'm not drinking. I'll let tomorrow worry about tomorrow. BUT I'm worried about Thanksgiving because my whole family drinks. They drink a lot. They get drunk at every family gathering. I already told the...
