Re: Trouble undertsanding sometimes

"Trouble understanding" would be quite an understatement for my experience. I wouldn't /couldn't understand much of anything when I first came in. It wasn't because I wasn't smart enough- it was because the implications of this thing were too big. I was unaware that I was unaware. The only thing I c...

Re: Home Group is Dying Out

So the wee rural group in a little rural village, deep in a far southern latitude, puttered along with 2 or 3 older male dairy farmers for years. No women welcomed, not much reliance on twelve steps but an apparent antipodean gritty determination to stay together sober. One evening a fresh faced wom...

Re: Maybe Day One will Begin on 02/14/15

So, what eventually worked, for a lot of us, was to actually go to an AA meeting. Simple. So simple I made up a bazillion reasons not to. Finally, some inner will to live got me to one. I was amazed; nobody wanted, demanded, requested, required anything nor made inquiry of me. I filled out no forms,...

Re: admitting vs accepting - step one

As I began to actually do what you suggested, as I began to read the actual words of the Big Book (and stopped trying to read between the lines), when I consciously admitted to myself that I wasn't different ( not better, not worse) than you; then, eventually, I came to realise that this new way of ...

Re: Resentments toward another recovering AA member

Yes, yes and yes! One of the most useful passages from the book, those forgiveness instructions. Worked for me...took more than two or three weeks, but it worked. Praying for their spiritual well being every morning for over a year. Eventually the fear and resentment left and peace came. Well worth ...

Re: AA in New Zealand

Good stuff.
It's actually a beautiful story about how AA was spread throughout much of NZ by a couple of wealthy American AA'ers going from town to town looking for alcoholics to help, spreading the word. I would not do it justice trying to re tell it, but what a great gift they gave.
Have fun.

Re: AA in New Zealand

Hi from Aotearoa, the Land of the Long, White Cloud. Lovely to hear you're coming down for a wee visit. People are friendly, weather is great, the scenery terrific and there are lots of AA meetings. Most practical advice to remember, after you have found a meeting location online, is to remember to ...

Re: How to move from Step 1 and realizing you have.

Good, good stuff. I might just add that Step 3 says "...could and would if he were sought..."; it doesn't say "found", it says sought. I see a lot of needless struggling and frustration over this. I have also heard that "it is in the seeking at we find"
Just sayin....

Re: My Character Defects keep hanging on for dear life

Me too! But, for me, that is the whole point of learning this new way of life. My CD's linger, but more importantly, they no longer dictate my choice. You have showed me that by faithfully practicing these principles in all of my affairs I, too, can have a spiritual awakening. Today I can practice k...

Re: The first time I've said this

Hi, thanks for telling us a wee bit about yourself and your experience thus far with alcohol. I doubt if anybody here is gonna try and convince you to do anything; what we do is simply share our experience and to let you know we are here when you are ready. Most of us would say that alcoholics of ou...

Re: Slipped and destraught

This is my experience and is offered in the hope someone may find it helpful ; I did when it was showed to me. In our basic text, the Big Book, on page 568, three lines down begins a quite short paragraph describing the necessity of accepting a Power Greater than Ourselves. It does go on to say that...

Re: Step 7

Yep. I slowly am learning to love the erstwhile pursuit of the unknowable by the unknowing. Slowly I gain an appreciation of the unveiling of our heart's desire. Slowly, I see the presence of a Child of the Universe, seeking the ageless answer. Regardless of what, how or where words, spoken or unspo...
