Re: what,s you view on links to treatment centers

Sorry, Pablito. It's not that I wouldn't have an opinion - it's just that I wouldn't have anything sensible to say about this topic (caused by lack of experience). Didn't mean to ignore you 8).

Re: My Understanding of Alcoholics Anonymous

Well, I find this searching quite interesting. Don't see nothing wrong with it either, actually. It was AA itself that used the word moral in the 4th step. The word "moral" is mentioned a bit more often than that: it is found on pages 11, 44, 45, 59, 95, and 137. I find what is written on the bottom...

Re: My Understanding of Alcoholics Anonymous

Hi Steven - and welcome! Interesting post... I hope you don't take offence if I ask you if you are alcoholic yourself. I ask this because there are some elements in there that may hold truth on the surface of things, but also do just that - scratch the surface. Two elements in particular I would lik...

Re: treatment plan

Am I a failure because I just cant do it by going to meetings? Hardly. I personally have not yet met a real alcoholic who can recover just by going to meetings. Lots of heavy drinkers who could stop just by wanting it, or by having the "social aspect" of AA around them, yes. But not real alcoholics...

Re: Working the steps

Hi Rebecca! Let me put it this way: you need to hear from other alcoholics about the steps. How they are doing them / did them, what their experiences were, and what traps they fell into. For me, my primary source of that kind of honest information is my sponsor. For others, it is someone else, or a...

This time, Allamerican, you have just managed to confuse me (as to the meaning of your post) - not educate me.

Re: Step 4

Hey Ken, Then with what you had just said, you find it ok that I only have 4 organizations and 9 peoples names on my list?! It's like you hear so much of people having pages on Step 4, but I can honestly say I didn't have many resentments...I was just an irresponsible person which was a direct caus...

Re: Step 4

When I did my first inventory, I was amazed at the long list of names in the first column. I had to make extra space between the names for the second column (now I use one name per page - paper is not that expensive). I started to disconnect from the people I felt hurt me and to attach to what they ...

Re: ".....entirely ready....."

Hi Mike! Has anybody else had experience of this? Sure! It's scary to let God take care of everything. The keyword here though is "care" - not "control". And that is a big difference. We (thought we) had control, God takes care of things. It is a damn hard thing to do, handing over to God things tha...

Re: Drunk Dreams

I had a few myself, so I guess they are normal (if not always comfortable). The latest one was where I had people visiting and I poured them vodka. Except, they never got any - I decided to taste (the whole bottle). The weird thing for me is that I was not drunk in that dream. Nor even relieved or s...

Re: l buried my dad today

Thank you for sharing this with us, Gregory. It means a lot to me to read this. My mother died three weeks before I got sober - I did not get to make "living amends", so to speak. But I did get to clear everything up later on. And even something as incomplete and indirect as a letter to deceased per...

Re: The Steps

But remember, a friend once told me, when you progress through the steps to 10, 11, and 12, all you really do is reach the level of a normal person . That's cool with me. I don't need to be "special" anymore. At least, that strong urge to be noticed is gradually fading away. I still like ...

Re: Sharing in Meetings

Hi Jason, I'm 18 months sober myself, and not that experienced in f2f meetings (although I do attend online voice meetings). I actually only have three rules I (try to) adhere to in meetings. If I stick to them, I find that sharing goes naturally. So, from my experience: 1) Talk about what you are d...
