Re: First Time Actively Seeking Help

The blackouts were scary, for me. Occasionally, and increasingly, frightening.

Just did not know how to stop those events.

I learned the only way was to stop drinking I needed help to do that.

Re: First Time Actively Seeking Help

I can't go to rehab. I would probably benefit from it, but I need a way that allows me to keep my life together. Welcome HammerBill. Maybe you can search elsewhere for an outpatient program. They are usually available. You seem to be at a contemplation stage about helping yourself. This is very pos...

Re: My wife's drinking is worrying me

Greetings Wht should I do in this situation? I truly don't know and feel myself lost. I also can't tell this to any of my or her friends, as they all drink and believe that as long as you don't fall on the floor or squeal like a pig due to intoxication, it is okay and not a big deal at all. Truth i...

Re: Newbie to AA: Marriage Counseling????

23 Seeking Professional Help Probably every recovered alcoholic has needed and sought professional help of the sort AA does not provide. For instance, the first two AA members, its co-founders, needed and got help from physicians, hospitals, and clergymen. Once we have started staying sober, a lot o...

S777, that's at least three times you've posted about suicidal ideation. Are you serious about this?

Re: Hi

Welcome,to this forum, A112. I am glad you got it off your chest. You seem to have admitted you are an alcoholic. From what you describe, I'd say you are right. Do you want to do anything about it, like AA or some other recovery endeavor? If you do wish to do something about it, we can help. We've t...

Re: Relapse waiting to happen

With regard to all AA's I encounter or observe, I try mightily to not get into the prediction business about whether they will relapse. Or whether they will stay sober. I've heard too many stories and seen too many examples of incorrect predictions. I pray for all AA's to stay sober but I really don...

Re: Alcohol in foods and other products

It's good to read varying opinions about this subject. I won't eat anything that has wine, beer or booze as an ingredient. I use non-alcohol mouthwash and I don't worry about what's in dress fruit or vegetables. I won't drink "NA" wine or beer because of the alcohol in it. It's a very small amount, ...

Re: Need some Answers??

My wife was sober for 6 months then she started drinking again. I got her off it and back in aa but now she has fallen again. What is her history before the 6 months sober? One of my ? Is should any of her aa friends or sponsor try to talk to her or help her in any way? Yes. Generally, any AA can c...

Re: Being forced to sit at attention GOD help me !

Good, that you have meetings without that problem. Sometimes some old timers are too enthusiastic about behaviors or notions they value. Maybe that's the case here. This is where a concept like Live And Let Live can be very helpful. OTOH, you could consider some effort to call them out on the issue....

Re: Being forced to sit at attention GOD help me !

Welcome to the forum, PeterP.
I've never seen anyone being forced to sit in the manner you describe.

I have seen veteran AA members make "Do this or you will drink!" comments to newcomers. Sometimes it can be OK. Other times they can overdo things.

Re: Am I an Alcoholic?

No. I am not functionally well mentally. I have never thought of alcohol being a symptom of a bigger issue. Another important factor to consider is that alcoholism is progressive. Things will get worse if you are an alcoholic. In many ways--cognitive, spiritual, legal, physical, social...Things DO ...
