Re: AA in a Nutshell

I think for a minute, I confused sobriety with "not drinking".

If I consider sobriety to recovering from a hopeless state of mind, then yes it is harder to get sober than it is to stay this way.

Re: AA in a Nutshell

Karl - Great article, although i disagree with the last line. I believe staying sober is harder.

Re: Beating myself up....

In fact they seem nothing more than a bad dream! Honest! Sometimes I think I've made a mountain out of a mole hill; maybe I was just a heavy drinker and not an alcoholic? I wonder this too sometimes, but then again i identify with the description of an alcholic in the Big Book..the drinking charact...

Re: ANGER! It still happens. What do I do?

Yesterday I got cheated by a taxi driver who charged me twice the normal fare. My dad paid the cab driver and we didn't tlak about it but it kept eating away at me. For the next 2 hours all I could think about was getting a hold of that taxi driver and smashing his head to a pulp. I was so consumed ...

Re: LIFE

Ken - I can relate to that. I spend a lot of time wondering about the future and in general I always manage to see the negative. My spouse is totally carefree but with me I am always worried about everything. If I am planning a trip somewhere I am always focused on the bad stuff that "could" happen,...

The present moment is never intolerable. It is always what is coming in five minutes or five days that makes people despair. The Law of Life is to live in the present, and this applies to both time and place. Keep your attention to the present moment, and in the place where your body is now. Emmet F...

Re: What's your thoughts on swearing in meetings?

Early on in my drinking days I determined that I disliked the stereotypical loud, obnoxious, boring drunk and was determined to never be like that. Me too, right up until I actually became the stereotypical loud ,obnoxious, sloppy, abusive and boring drunk . These days I have the privilege of watch...

Re: ANGER! It still happens. What do I do?

But I have found that the times when I let the rage take over that I need to look deeper into why I permit that again. I have concluded that the adrenaline and endorphins that are released at those times are addictive to me. I set up circumstances where these body drugs are released. I catch myself...

Re: Newbies

Perhaps I'm wrong, but, I feel we need to have an approach to newcomers thats somewhere between the two extremes, but which also constantly emphasises the twelve steps as being the most important aspect of our programme. You are correct Mike, there has to be a balance. We should not be too hard on ...
