Re: Other drugs at meetings...

That was the purpose of the post and I would hope that it does indeed accomplish that. You don't appear to spend any time contemplating on perceptions other than your own, so I thought I would interject the perception of another person. What you do with the information is up to you. You want to kno...

Re: Alano Clubs - Breaking Tradition?

While your comment is not relevant to the point I was making, the two paragraphs in the Big Book devoted to the 3rd step says nothing about the "decision" being one to continue with the rest of the steps. That may be so... That's like saying you agree with something "BUT" it is modified by everythi...

Re: Other drugs at meetings...

My perception is that the term "pure" alcoholic bespeaks a moral superiority. I also feel it serves to propagate a "better than"attitude. You can believe or perceive what you want to, but know that this perception gives us an insight into you. If I coined the phrase it means what I say it means and...

Re: Alano Clubs - Breaking Tradition?

traditions don't permit the lending of the AA name The name of AA is Alcoholics Anonymous, not a variation of that name, but that name. Really, because the two names have so much in common, When you talk about registered names, I assure you they do not provide protection for variations. Alano may e...

Re: I really need help/advice please

I cannot imagine not drinking, I hate myself when I am not drunk. My ex- used to say to me "you change when you drink". My response was basically "yes, I know, that's good isn't it?" Drinking was never my problem. It's not yours either. My problem was feeling, and I had to drink to stand it. That's...

Re: Other drugs at meetings...

"pure" alcoholic Must admit, that phrase is a new one on me. I have heard no other use the term. A few have said that most newcomers come in with both alcohol and drug addictions, dual or cross-addictions if you will. I believe most are claiming to be dually or cross addicted, and I know at least o...

Re: Alano Clubs - Breaking Tradition?

For anyone interested, Bill Wilson wrote about the role of clubs in a Grapevine article titled: "Clubs in AA April 1947" I'm sure you can search the title with his name and find the whole thing, but in it he wrote: "...which ought to be separately incorporated under another name such, for example, ...

Re: Other drugs at meetings...

I know that this is an old thread, but it hits home. I agree with AA's "singleness of purpose" and have posted such elsewhere in more detail. As a "pure" alcoholic I can't identify with drug behavior. I have heard people say that a 12 step meeting is a 12 step meeting, so go to Gambling, Overeaters....

Whether you intended to be tongue-in-cheek or not, I chuckled when I read that.  Haven't we all felt "unique" at times?

Re: Alano Clubs - Breaking Tradition?

theres one more thing that the 3rd step decision is- a decision to continue with the rest of the steps. You throw a lot of nonsense into your two posts including fictitious quotes which I won't address. What I will address is that I have heard this nonsense before. While your comment is not relevan...

Re: Two Types of Alcoholics ?

I have no idea what John wrote, but the Subject certainly reminded me that I did think there were 2 kinds of alcoholics in AA when I first got here. I'm high bottom. That is, I never drank 2 days in a row, just sporadically for 15+ years. I made a point to be careful. The 12 and 12 talks about bott...
