Re: First 30 days

I shared at my home group once when I relapsed after 18 months. After that I just said "I would like to listen". I had a lot to learn. I dont think it is helpful to humiliate yourself over and over again. Now that I have some time under my belt, I will share about it if it is helpful to someone else...

Re: Acceptance & Expectations

burger analogy is just plain silly. Of course it is silly. It was meant to be =wink The point I was making is that I have to accept things, both big and small. Even the unacceptable, at times. As far as your doctor analogy, I try to stay out of the "what if". It makes my head crazy and I slip back ...

Re: Acceptance & Expectations

If i hold other people to my own set of standards, I will find myself forever disappointed and angry. "The grouch and the brainstorm were not for us. They may be dubious luxuries of normal men, but for alcoholics these things are poison." (Pg 67) I hold myself to a very high accountability rate, wit...

Re: Condescension in AA

Please reconsider this splicer, especially if you have children. My father did this when I was a child. It is a wound that never completely heals. Your single selfish decision will impact them for the rest of their life.. AA does not solve all of our problems. Have you considered a therapist or reac...

Re: Newbie

Hi Kitty, When I was newly sober I was amazed by anyone that could get 3 months of sobriety. When I asked them how they did it, they said one day at a time. Sounded trite, but now I get it. Fighting the cravings off one at a time just to get through the day. I did it by going to a lot of meetings, a...

Keeping it in your car sounds like a great idea, Daveguy. If you think you might drive after drinking it could save you from one more.

The fact of the matter is, alcoholism is more easily associated with early morning drinking, than it is with a few after work drinks, or with housewives sharing some wine.

Hi Ready, I am glad that you are here. Congratulations on recognizing that you have a problem and reaching out for help. This can be a new beginning for you. Have you looked for face to face meetings in your area? They have helped me to stay sober. I was exactly where you are right now when I reache...

What it was like, what happened, and what it's like now. When you have something to say, the words will come. Just like anything, the more you do it, the easier it gets ! You have been sober 8 months longer than the new person walking in the door. Share how you did it! Chairing and coffee guy. Sound...

Re: Kept it to myself

I need to start being of service though... You helped me last fall. I was in a hotel in Chicago with my husband. He was off in a conference and I couldn't leave the hotel. I was surrounded by concrete walls between the hotel and expressway so I decided I would go to the gym down by the lobby. I was...
