Re: Stuck in a Rut

If you are feeling stagnant in your program I would suggest stop doing the things that are making you feel that way. Start sharing again, start helping clean up after the meeting and reach your hand out for help. Nothing changes if nothing changes.

Re: Recovered alcoholic

Desy you have a strong message and I can tell you are passionate about AA. I just don't know what you are trying to prove with your rants. It says in appendix II... "Most emphatically we wish to say that any alcoholic capable of honestly facing his problems in the light of our experience can recover...

Re: Recovered alcoholic

I want to clear something up from my last post. I do not believe that once we reach a certain point that we are all hunky doory and can stop doing what it we did to get to serenity. I like my serenity....Can't say I always have it....I like it when I do. But I have been restored to sanity when it c...

Re: Recovered alcoholic

I want to clear something up from my last post. I do not believe that once we reach a certain point that we are all hunky doory and can stop doing what it we did to get to serenity. I work daily on my spiritual maintanence and continue to pratice the principles in all of my affairs. However I believ...

Re: Forgiveness

I found that once I did the 5th step I ceased being a victim of the resentments I had. I remember when I started doing my 5th step I thought "finally I'm going to get some justice." The opposite happened what I really got is a heavy dose of humility. When doing the 4th step inventory we disregard th...

Re: Recovered alcoholic

I love when the thumpers unite. I completely agree with the recovered argument. I know if I was told early on that I would be "recovering" for the rest of my life I would've had to have a beer and think about this whole AA thing. I'm grateful I have a sponsor who lives the program out of the big boo...

Re: Connecting to a HP

It says "Faith without works is dead" three times in the first 164 pages of the big book. That tells me I have to do something. I can pray for my electric bill to be paid but if I don't do something about I will be praying in the dark. Faith is about application. When I start to run the show and tak...

Re: Relapsed and confused

Bill W. talks about this phenomena in the BB reminding us that this disease is cunning, baffling, powerful and there are times when no alcoholic has any defense against that first drink. Those of us who have experienced this phenomena understand that old insanity--that peculiar mental twist--can fe...

Re: Relapsed and confused

Congrats on 7 days sober! Do you have a book yet? The Big Book of Alcoholic's Anonymous tells us all about the disease and how the insanity of the disease will win out if we don't keep in fit spiritual condition. The way we get to that spiritual condition is through daily practice, working the steps...

Re: 5th step related

I'm glad you got that off your chest. If you don't do those types of things when you're sober then there is nothing to worry about. Once you have shared that with another alcoholic let it go...then you can use the experience to help a newcomer. Our past is our greatest asset!

Re: Am I any different?

WOW, tosh our stories do seem very similar. I tend to blame other things for my drinking, stress, not happy with myself, overwhelmed, etc. Not to mention PCSing at the moment so I am stuck in a hotel. Its hard for me too because well my wife and I always used to drink together. When we first got to...

Re: Almost a year and feeling nervous

YES right before my first year I got super antsy but I did what you are doing and went to more meetings and hung out with my sober buddies. My sponsor who has 15 years told me he gets a little nervous around his birthday as well. Don't freak out just remember what you've learned, practice the princi...

Re: Trying to wrap my head around "powerless" in step one

I don't understand desypete...I have been reading some of you posts and I'm amazed that as soon as someone mentions something out of the big book you feel the need to post how worse off you were than the rest of us. Perhaps I should qualify myself before I go on...I drank alot everyday and it almost...

Re: How do I learn to ask for help

Sometimes you just have to get out of your comfort zone and be willing to do something different. Help was the dirtiest 4 letter word to me when I was new. It took all the courage I could muster to pick up that phone the first time but it saved me from me. If your sponsor is living the aa principles...
