Re: A giude to the 12 steps

I was at a meeting yesterday and I heard an "oldtimer" say to a newcomer "just keep coming back and don't drink between meetings." My book says "The message which can hold and interest these alcoholic people must have depth and weight." I read that yesterday after this "oldtimer" shared and said the...

Re: failed to continue on a good path,

Get to the hospital or detox center. Withdrawals from alcohol are nothing to be played with. I was in the hospital for 5 days detoxing, I'm not saying you will have to stay that long but for me it was necessary. That stay in the hospital really opened my eyes to the seriousness of my disease and gav...

Re: Big Book Thumper: Friend or Foe?

I want to make something clear here I don't believe that this is the only way or even the right way...to me that's not important...what is important is I'm sober today and get to work with alcoholics on a daily basis...some of these folks do this method and follow through some do not...for the ones ...

Re: Big Book Thumper: Friend or Foe?

Read the book 7 times???!!! I guarantee you that nobody actually followed thru and did this. (If they said they did, they were probably lying). I know that after reading it 2 or 3 times, I wouldn't be actually reading it, but just skimming it. I'm with the folks that say get on with the steps. Too ...

Re: Big Book Thumper: Friend or Foe?

Tosh I'm not suggesting everyone do this...is it alot...YES...does it say anywhere in the Big Book it should be done this way...No. The bottom line is it works for people and gives people a better knowledge of the book. I really do understand what you're saying and I'm not asking you to agree with m...

Re: Big Book Thumper: Friend or Foe?

OK I feel a need to respond here and maybe shed some light on what this process really is. Number 1 this is not my sponsors way nor is it some kind of procrastination. It was freely given to him by his sponsor in prison(where he got sober) Is it extreme...YES!! There is a reason for that...each dire...

Re: Big Book Thumper: Friend or Foe?

I thought I would post a general outline of the process I was shown out of the book. The first direction I got from my sponsor was read from the preface to page 164...read it like a novel...one page after the other and look for similarities...don't try to psycho analize it just read it. After that I...

Re: Just saying hi everyone

Its a matter of searching inside yourself and being completely honest about your situation. Are the times that are good worth the times that aren't? You have to remember that your sobriety has nothing to do with anyone else and expectations are resentments waiting to happen. The Big Book tells us re...

Re: Relapsed and confused

This is what happened to me not only once, but 3 times! My Sponsors relapsed after so many years of being sober! I've actually given up on sponsors now. I only read the BB now. I don't really need any sponsor anymore. Don't think I've beyond anyone. Actually my Psychiatrist that is totally dedicate...

Re: Does anyone else have a hard time with very flaky people

Welcome my friend glad you are here and reaching out. It sounds to me like you might need to search out some different meetings. Do you go to the same ones? Are there options? It may not seem like it now but there are truly good and humble people in AA. If it is an option I suggest branching out and...

Re: Big Book Thumper: Friend or Foe?

Just for kicks I looked for a way to count how many words a person has typed on this thread, I found one and see that desypete has managed to bless us with 4,848 words. Mind you the counter includes the shaded quotation area the poster reproduces. The fact is moderators close these topics after fiv...

Re: Big Book Thumper: Friend or Foe?

Wow Pete you just can't help yourself can you..As stepchild said have you even worked the steps? Are you here to stir up controversy and drama? I'm not sure what you mean with the penny talk but once again you have turned the topic onto some kind of "look how much worse I am than rest of you" rant. ...

Re: Big Book Thumper: Friend or Foe?

As far as I'm concerned those who have a problem with the "big book thumpers" are not working the program the way it was intended. I like what Tommy said and I say it often in open meetings "you're going to hear alot of BS in AA, but if its not in the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous then its not Al...
