Re: When should we start the steps?...According to the book

Maybe for some its not a matter of life and death...maybe for some they want to play with the 12 steps like its a new toy. I see it all the time..people want to wave the white flag and hang on to the fence. If you keep doing what your doing your going to keep getting what you're getting. I heard ear...

Re: When should we start the steps?...According to the book

Your story is close to mine stepchild...I also detoxed for 5 days..all in intensive care. I had my Big Book with me and spent quite a bit of time in it. That horrible experience laying in the hospital bed gave me the sweet gift of deperation..that experience gave me a real step 1 experience. I had n...

Re: New to the forum

Thank you for sharing that Heath. My suggestion is just concentrate on the 4th step and not future trip on the 5th...be where your hands are. As far as the God thing goes...just do the work and you will be contacted..your higher power will reveal itself to you.

Re: New to the forum

Welcome Heath...your story sounds familiar...funny how that happens here. I moved too at the end of my drinking career but no matter where I went there I was  I read you have completed step 3 which is great...have you started on step 4? It tells us in the Big Book on page 63-64... Next we launc...

Re: What do you say to relapsers?

I see value in the relapsers. Its a shame that some people have to go back out and do that perpetual research and development...trying to prove themselves exceptions to the rule...some end up dead. For the grace of God there go I...these folks always remind me that it doesn't get any better out ther...

Re: New to this forum. Really struggling

Welcome Natalie..I can identify with your present circumstance. At the end of my drinking career I was completely depressed. I remember waking up each day feeling sentenced to another day of life. I actually moved from my home town to get out of my "playground" and wouldn't you know it they had alco...

Re: being right

I look at those three statements....And I'm not seeing a whole lot of other options for what that key could be. Is that fair? Any ideas? I'm with you 100% brother. I think what Paige is refering to is the personal journey we each have to go through as we travel the road to happy destiny. Its like o...

Re: being right

Man if I was a newcomer reading this I would be confused. The program of action is laid out beautifully in the Big Book...being right has nothing to do with it. I spent most of my life trying to be right or justifying things so I could be comfortable with my actions. I have been sitting on the sidel...

Re: Redoing 4 & 5?

In the directions for step 10... Continue to watch for selfishness, dishonesty, resentment, and fear(4). When these crop up, we ask God at once to remove them.(6,7) We discuss them with someone immediately(5) and make amends quickly if we have harmed anyone.(9) I totally agree Stepchild. I've heard...

I love AA

So I went to a meeting today and when I walked in there was one of the guys I guided through the steps. He has just finished his 9th step...and there he was Big Book in hand carrying the message to a newcomer. There is something about seeing a guy you worked with gettin all over a newcomer...AND DOI...

Re: A program of Action

I'm feeling so grateful today because I did step 5, 6, and 7 this morning. The burden I have been carrying has been heavy, many thanks to everyone here who have contributed their ESH over the past weeks since I joined e-AA. Its largely because of you all that I had the courage to face and be rid of...

Re: Half measures avail us nothing

That would indeed convey a message that we don't need meetings at all. What I really meant was some people use that as a primary tool in their recovery. I actually wasn't saying that we don't need meetings. I go to quite a few meetings...the alano club I go to is very full of fresh out of jail and ...

Re: Am I an alcoholic?

I have to bounce off what Tosh said. When I went to my first AA meeting I was expecting all kinds of weirdos..old crazy dudes..."is someone going to see me"..."I don't want anyone to know what I am :( ..It wasn't that way at all. There alot of friendly faces and hands reaching out to welcome me. I r...

Re: Finding something new to look forward to?

What you have to look forward to is a life not only free from alcohol but freedom from the bondage of self. To walk with purpose and be able to give yourself so that others can recover. I know it doesn't seem like it now but all the crap in early sobriety is very temporary. You can have contented so...

Re: The great debate?

I wonder if this PHD is an alcoholic...sounds like a resentment to me. Regardless this is an opinion and very much an outside issue. Tradition Ten Alcoholics Anonymous has no opinion on outside issues hence; the AA name ought never be drawn into public controversy. Tradition Twelve Anonymity is the ...
