Re: Nothing but Nudge from the Judgers

You're putting words in my mouth...I never said or even implied that anyone who walks through the doors is a waste of time. I carry the message regardless of the crowd gathered at a meeting. What I did say is there will always be folks who are at meetings to simply get a slip signed. Who are not the...

Re: Nothing but Nudge from the Judgers

Is it not written in BB that some men approached the judge and requested the alcoholic be given a chance to attend AA under their custody rather than be sentenced to prison? The way I see it is that the courts make it so easy for us to possibly get the message to that alcoholic by 'entrusting them ...

Re: What's the point of meetings?

What we're supposed to do is share our experience, strength and hope so those who are younger in sobriety can see there is a solution to their problem. Unfortunately to many people in AA use it as therapy...which is definitely not what we're there for. As you move forward in recovery you will see th...

Re: Nothing but Nudge from the Judgers

I have signed court slips before the meeting and told people they could leave if they want a day off. AA is not affiliated with the court system...we sign court cards as a courtesy. Really if a person doesn't want to be there they are not going to hear a message whether they stay or not. My suggesti...

Re: Mental state that precedes a relapse!

Then he went on to say that lately when he goes to meetings all he hears is "Gloom, Doom and Agony on Me" and it was REALLY starting to depress him. On one hand he knows that meetings are his salvation and his last hope to remain clean, but on the other the hand he was dragging himself to meetings ...

Re: Mental state that precedes a relapse!

I agree Brock...The big book gives us things to do to prevent these types of things.. Page 84... This thought brings us to Step Ten, which suggests we continue to take personal inventory and continue to set right any new mistakes as we go along. We vigorously commenced this way of living as we clean...

Re: Mouthwash?

If a person has to be detoxed with a pill so be it. I had to take Librium for about a week when I detoxed...this is not what I am talking about. What I'm talking about is precisely what I said above...THERE IS NO CHEMICAL SOLUTION TO A SPIRITUAL PROBLEM...PERIOD. I really don't care if you disagree ...

Re: Mental state that precedes a relapse!

BB page 24... The fact is that most alcoholics, for reasons yet obscure, have lost the power of choice in drink. Our so-called will power becomes practically nonexistent. We are unable, at certain times, to bring into our consciousness with sufficient force the memory of the suffering and humiliatio...

Re: Hi all

Welcome to the newcomer who is posting here...also don't "sit" on anything if you're going to work the program of AA. Its like walking up the down moving escaltor...if you keep moving you will make progress but if you stand still you'll go back to the bottom. If you can read the the Doctor's Opinion...

Re: First AA meeting

Welcome to e-aa...it takes alot of courage to write those things about yourself. I know the anxiety you're feeling...if anyone tells you they weren't nervous before their first meeting they are most likely lying to you. Now all that being said from what I've read here it seems to me that you just mi...

Re: 3rd Step - How do you know you're doing God's will?

Here is the thread the Lali is talking about http://www.e-aa.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=22188&p=145414#p145319 I've never heard of this asking as many alcoholics as it takes to get to 300 years about the 3rd step. The 3rd step isn't about doing God's will...its a decision to turn our will and ou...

Re: Figuring out if someone's an alcoholic

I will relate one of my many stories while I was out there drinking. After a night of heavy partying I woke the next morning and began to drink bloody marys. After 3 or so hours of this I drove to my cousins graduation party picking up a 12 pack on the way. I stayed at the party for a few hours and ...

Re: Low self esteem/alcoholism, the cycle

It seems to me that you have taken good affirmative action in removing this person from your life. I'll tell you like my sponsor told me...Stop over analyzing and thinking about these things(easier said than done) and get busy working the steps. I remember early in sobriety when the fog cleared I st...

When you stop believing that it's all about you and become convinced that you are a small peice of the whole picture you will start to understand what spirituality is.
