Re: Step 2 Higher Power

I was fortunate enough, in early recovery, to go on a 'Came to believe' weekend retreat. Awesome...how did you find it?? Hello Zara. I am not sure of your question, so I'll give my two possible answers. (1)The retreat was provided to AA members that were regular attendees to the Lane Cove Steps mee...

Re: Step 2 Higher Power

I am an oldtimer in AA, but recently, I found that the trouble I had connecting to my Higher Power was simply due to the concept I had of my Higher Power....the God of my childhood doesn't work for me. It was a HARD change for me.....and I am still developing a new understanding of a Higher Power. ...

Re: In am not sure where to start

Hello kyc. I am an alcoholic, and have come across this a fair bit. First of all, he has to want to stay sober for himself, and not just to please you or others. Otherwise, he will blame you, others, and/or AA if he relapses, ruining possible return to AA. The best you can do is to inform him, when ...

Re: ready to give up

... Part of why I have lost myself to alcohol is because I can power through things in public, but fall apart in private. I do not want to make a public mess of myself in order to get someone to care enough, or feel sorry for me enough, to help me I like what kjay said: ... For me, it was difficult...

Re: Grace

Cole, reading your post warmed my heart, thank you. I am inspired to share my experiences too, if you do not mind. I have come to understand that God's grace is the Love that loves me. It is what inspires gratitude in me. As long as I am grateful, God's grace is being expressed through me. Wh...

Re: ready to give up

Hang in there catcar.

I relate to wanting to give up, it is exactly where my alcoholism wants me.

Relapse into alcoholism may very well kill you. But sobriety may very well cure you.

Do not clutch at your pain, and the pain will pass.

Re: Dysfunctional Family, and other bits

I treasured the AA cliches: One day at a time. Easy Does it. How important is it. Keep it simple. (and others) I also talk to my sponsor, and asked for advice. Quite often he would give me one of those cliches, and it would do the trick. Keep going to AA meetings. If life gets too difficult, I would...

Re: not sure what my subject is

Hello chessiesmile. It is so good to read that you are willing to go to any lengths to recover, to get a sponsor, and to do the 12 Steps. I used to live in the bush, and my nearest AA meeting was 47 miles away. The meeting was very small too. Many AA's would travel from town to town to support the s...

Re: Is this normal?

Hello BlueSkies. When I started drinking alcoholically, my emotional growth hit the 'pause' button, so to speak. It was on 'pause' for about 16 years. Also, during that time, most of my beliefs, life philosophy, morals, ethics, etc., got twisted to support my drinking, and to ridicule sobriety. In o...
