Re: When Religion is a Big Part of a Meeting

I was taught that if I want to save my soul, go to church. If I want to save my a$$, go to AA. Most religious zealots are impossible to talk rationally with. They basically believe they are on a mission from God, so they are right. I would just ignore them, continue to show up at the meeting, and sh...

Re: What does a sponsor do that A.A friends can't ?

My favorite analogy about sponsorship is that I can read a book on how to change the brake pads on my car. When I go out to do it, somehow it not as easy, nor does it go the way it is written and shown in the book. It's a lot easier if you have someone with replacing brake pad there with you to walk...

Re: I don't feel like an alcoholic

I wan't able to stop until I hit my bottom. I just got to a point where I realized I could not help myself no matter how hard I tried. That when I stopped showing up to AA and became a member of AA.

Re: Working on 4th and 10th Step Software - Open Source

No, No, No, NO, NO! Write by pen or pencil, share with another human being and you Higher Power, destroy your 4th step. There is no need to save or store. Nothing is completely safe on a computer. All one needs is a Big Book. I have got to disagree with you Db and It's not personal...; Written work...

Re: Alcohol in the House

I moved back in with my parents at the beginning of my recovery and at first there was no alcohol in the house. Now my parents have began to buy alcohol for their own consumption. Obviously this is normal and neither of my parents drink to excess, but it keeps me up at night to know it is downstair...

Re: Psychiatrist Sponsee Has Someone Who Wants Counselling F

It depends on where the person called. If he called his office, I would say treat him as a patient but if he called his personal cell phone or home I would refer him to AA straight. I agree. If he called him at the office, he has already set the stage for a professional relationship so he should re...

Re: Marijuana Maintenance

If I'm going to smoke pot, then I might as well just go ahead and drink. AA offers me a spiritual way to recover from my alcoholism. IMHO, MM is a chemical solution. And , I tried it and it didn't work for me.

Re: voting goup conscience?

The only requirement for AA membership is a desire to stop drinking. You are basically a member of a group when you say you are.in the spirit of the 12 Traditions if you say you are a member then you should be able to participate.

Re: still find it hard to accept

I got sober one month before my 18th birthday. My drinking got me kicked out of a couple of schools, a few hospitalizations, a trip to a mental institution, numerous arrest, a few nights in jail, counseling, rehabs, halfway houses, loss of friends, loss of self respect, probation based on attending ...

Re: help

After nine plus years I think you know what you should do. The self center fear that is part of the disease of alcoholism is always present. Sometimes it's big things or sometimes it's little things that set it off. I find the problem isn't the situation or the other person. It's me, and that's what...

Re: Young and Sponsoring

As everyone has said, I can only carry the message, not the drunk. I got sober in my teens back when Jimmy Carter was president. Drank every day, smoked pot every day, shot up meth whenever I could get it and did any other drug I could get my hands on. Trying to control usage by just smoking pot was...
