Re: I don't feel like an alcoholic

Hello and welcome. Thanks for your post. I think you may have answered your own post. You say that you don't want to drink or smoke anymore. If you are not an alcoholic you should be able to quit based on the desire to no longer drink or smoke. However check out this line from our book. Page 44 in a...

Re: Can someone be drinking and still take step 1?

Thanks everyone for all the great replies. They were such good advice that I feel a bit foolish telling you the rest of the story. Today on my way home from work I got another text from the guy saying he was feeling a bit better today. He's been reading the big book he got at his 2nd meeting. I aske...

Can someone be drinking and still take step 1?

I have a new sponsee who has not been able to "concede to his innermost self that he is an alcoholic." He always says he's "chewing on that one" but texted me tonight to say he'd been drinking yesterday and today and that he was finding it "challenging" to stop. I replied to ask if finding it challe...

Why Meetings Make Us Feel Good

Heard in a meeting tonight. I think the guy mentioned he read something about it in The Grapevine. I feel good after meetings because I listen to others in meetings. One of the few places that I am a good listener. When I am listening to others i'm doing something for others. I'm not being selfish. ...

Re: AA ebooks not on Amazon or Android?

In fairness I noticed that the Grapvine books are readily available on Amazon for Kindle. Just not the core AAWS stuff.

Re: AA ebooks not on Amazon or Android?

Yep this is the link to the AA e-reader. I'm wondering why we would require a special app to read AA material when it could just be sold via more commonly used platforms like Kindle etc. Just seems like we'd want to make it very easy to read our material vs being so proprietary.

AA ebooks not on Amazon or Android?

Just out of curiousity. Does anyone know why AA makes literature so hard to get at on ereaders? They don't make anything but the Big Book available from Amazon. It appears you can install a special AA ereader app on iphone and ipad but nothing for Android? Seems odd to need a special app just for AA...

Re: 4th Step, Big Book or 12 x 12?

Thanks everyone. That is great food for thought. I especially like that passage you posted from AA Comes Of Age. Makes alot of sense. I think perhaps its time to do a 4th step based on the 12x12. I think it would help me gain a better understanding of Step 4 overall. I had always thought the method ...

4th Step, Big Book or 12 x 12?

I've done two Fourth Step's in my life, both based on the Big Book. When I have a resentment that comes up I also write inventory on that as part of my 10th step in the same manner as the Big Book suggests. The 12 x 12 seems to suggest another means of taking a personal inventory. Anyone have any th...

Re: Can't Stop

Welcome to e-AA. If you find you cannot stop drinking when you want to then you are probably one of us. But the good news is we have found a way out. What others have said is correct. Call AA, find a meeting near you and just show up and listen. Then find a sponsor and begin working the steps to fin...

Re: The most ridiculous things are triggering

Congratulations on the 98 days. You'll find lots of things changing now. I seem to recall 90 days was around the time that my dead emotions started coming back to life but spurting our in strange ways. This might be some side effect of your state of being coming back to normal. The best advice I can...

Re: Poaching Newcomers?

Thanks Derek Speaking as a Minnesotan, i'll agree things here are quite mild. I like spicy food so I often have to give SPECIFIC instructions to the chinese places. I've learned to ask for my Beef & Broccoli 3 Times Spicy so I get it right. If I just say Spicy I get my food with only hint of flavor....

Re: Poaching Newcomers?

Thanks for the replies. In hindsight i'm going to guess it might have been in reference to what someone mentioned about someone collecting sponsees as sort of an ego driving function or declaring themselves to be their temp sponsor in appropiately.

Happy New Years everyone.

Poaching Newcomers?

While travelling in Texas I heard the chair of a meeting mention "poaching newcomers". He was in the midst of a share and seemed to be referring to it as something that would happen and he wouldn't dwell on it etc. But i'm not sure what he means. Anyone familiar with this phrase?
