Re: To all the rebels...

Great pics, Tosh. I'm sure I wouldn't have understood the Welsh M/Cs either. Nice that the day was sunny and beautiful. They could stop polishing, dress up and finally get a ride in without getting themselves and the chrome all moist. The biker in the pic needs to purchase some tanning bed time to g...

Re: To all the rebels...

I would hope that rebels everywhere will enjoy an exceptional day. It would be great if the idea took off and went Global. Sort of an International "thumb your nose at wannabee authority figures who dress up in really silly ways" day.

Re: Sobriety, Is it given or do you still struggle!

My physical sobriety was steady from the beginning this time around. My emotions were all over the map, and I was still hiding from a lot of people I'd damaged in my drinking, and I was either full of anger or self-pity. I needed better than being physically sober if I was going to stay out of the n...

Re: Big Book Thumper: Friend or Foe?

I believe the term comes from the derisive "Bible thumper" label. I expect that way back an individual first applied it to the AA members who had good things to say about a book the individual had not yet read. It's kind of cute and humorous in a way...but I wonder how things played out for the pers...

Re: Homegroup- restrictions?

Welcome here Marla. I've not heard of restrictions or qualifications for considering a meeting your homegroup. That would be new to me. Obviously the qualities of some meetings lend themselves to that better than others. A meeting where the faces change each week, or where there are few people with ...

Re: No family, hate job, why stop drinking?

No family, hate job, why stop drinking? Don't care if I die tomorrow, vodka is the only thing to look forward to. Why stop? PS, there is no god. Living sober isn't for everyone, that's made pretty obvious by the vast majority of alcoholics who drink themselves to the point where drinking is all the...

Re: 2015 International Convention - Georgia Dome

Wondering if events will be recorded (in accordance with our Traditions)? I know that usually a photo is taken of the expansive Sat night crowd. Might be fun to listen to the speakers online, for those who cannot attend.

It might be enlightening for some, and inspiring for others.

Re: relapse after a long time sober

You intimate that after a few pleasant episodes things turned darker and you missed having the clarity of thought that had built up through the years you were sober. I know how I thought when drinking and can compare that to my awareness now. I think that's what I'd miss most if I were to return to ...

Re: Gotta end this game

You told the truth, took what I'm sure felt like a huge chance and hit the send button. Just wanted to say I admire the guts that those actions evidence. That kind of willingness will take you a long way in AA. It was a relief to me to find out I could tell the AAs a lot of my deep darks, because we...

Re: Male Sponsor Needed, Apply Within

You may find yourself drawn to a few sober guys when you're active in meetings. Attracted by what they may say about their sober life. I'm of the opinion that watching people for a while is a good idea before selecting a man to ask directly for his help. Because many of us get along by our cunning w...

Re: Not sure what to do.

The good news is that your sponsor isn't an authority who can send you off to do 5 years in lockup, she's nothing more than a tool that can be useful to you with the right kind of relationship between you. My sponsor told me a few things at the beginning. He guaranteed he would let me down, and that...

Re: Step one- never tried this before

Welcome to your recovery, Allison. Doing all the steps in order with guidance from a sober member imo, is the way to go. Doing that provided an end to the drinking life for me, which is among the least of it's many benefits. The pages of questions you answered may be beneficial, but as I'm unfamilia...

Hope to make it there, subject to arranging some details here. I attended the Seattle International and would like to take my spouse to her first one. We'll do our best to drop by the suite and thank you and those manning the room personally for your service.

Congratulations on hitting 30 years! I'm assuming you're in Australia or NZ. If not, let's do this again in 5 months.
