Re: Grieving loss of my dad

My heart hurts for you. You and your family are in our prayers. We lost Mom in 1996 when I was 9 years sober. It was/is loss on a level I can't describe and it was only through the love of God, family and AA that allowed me to heal and move on still sober and useful. The important thing for me was t...

Re: Power greater than ourselves - HP. Are they the same

From a historical perspective, Bill didn't like to use the same word to describe things, so he often used synonyms as a matter of writing style.

Re: One Year Sober. Do I need the rooms?

Things really changed for me when I started thinking about what I can give back to AA and those who still suffer.

Re: Huge resentment

Although a lot of us try to live by the principles of the program, we're still sick to some degree. If I had it all together I wouldn't need AA to begin with so it's trying to get better day by day. Pages 66 and 67 in the Big Book help me the most with justifiable anger and resentment.

Re: My sponsee 7 months sober seeing another AA 3 years sobe

Clear cut directions from the big book. We do not want to be the arbiter of anyone's sex conduct. We all have sex problems. We'd hardly be human if we didn't. What can we do about them? Thank you Avaneesh! Couldn't agree more. Step 1 reads, "We admitted we were powerless over alcohol— that our live...

Re: Anyone into photography?

Not as much into photography as we are these Cooper's Hawks which took up residence in our yard. So cool seeing them every day and now raising chicks! For the Big Bang Theory fans out there yes, we named them Shamy. http://i35.Spammer/albums/d167/GobyOneGnoby/IMG_0643_zpsitijdpto.jpg http://i...

Re: Music in recovery

The entire Lou Reed New York album was pivotal to early sobriety. I had, and sometime still have, anger issues and Lou's honesty and angry chords helped many of those wounds heal.

There is an Akron, OH station 91.3 the Summit, that offers a 24/7 on line station called Rock and Recovery. They're really committed to helping those of us in recovery.

Re: Struggles with my Al Anon

Our paths to health are our own. Even for non alcoholics. Most that I know that have begun to trudge the road of happy destiny with us bottomed out just like us. The best thing we can do is carry this message, practice principles and be an example.

She has a right to say no and he has a right to deal (or not deal) with it however he sees fit.

Re: Wrestling with Step 3

So if I hand my will over to God, maybe the ambivalence and confusion will clear up, and the obsession will go away? I too struggled mightily with the mental obsession. All I could think about was the very thing that would kill me. I can say that it has since been removed along with the 'ambivalenc...

I was told to find someone who talks about: taking the 12 Steps, reading the Big Book, saying prayers, helping others and practicing the AA principles outside of meetings.

Re: Rough week

Please accept my thoughts and prayers for you and your family. Drinking wasn't the problem. It was the solution to everything - joy, sorrow, success, failure and everything in between. The problem was I had no ability whatsoever to live sober. That was until God and AA showed me another way through ...

He can only be defeated by an attitude of intolerance or belligerent denial. This attitude nearly killed me. I wanted nothing to do with ' your' God, prayers, Steps and service work. All I wanted to do was quit drinking and keep breath in my lungs. Needless to say that being dry really magnified th...

Re: Opinion Needed

Who am I to tell people how they should live their lives? I drank myself into a state of powerlessness and despair and took all my loved ones down with me and now that I've put the bottle down I can play God? I had to learn that life and sobriety are gifts to be freely given and that others have the...
