Re: Setting a sobriety date

Hi, Nicky. I'm so glad you made it back here. Can you get to some face to face AA meetings while you are waiting for the phone call? I"m pretty sure they will be suggesting AA. Hi Lali, thanks for the welcome. I haven't had my phone call yet, but I am coping OK and haven't had a drink. It is 5.45am...

Re: Setting a sobriety date

Hi Nicky, Welcome back. Just get on with the steps, as they are suggested in the book and it WILL work. Just do them - no analysis necessary. Thanks for the welcome and the advice, I have already taken on board that the important thing is doing, not talking about doing. I've edited some of my posts...

Re: Setting a sobriety date

I am sorry you are having trouble with the entering the chat rooms. I am not a chat person but I was listening to lot of speaker tapes early in my sobriety. It was very convenient. Especially the workshop by Joe and charlie which you may find at XA-Speakers (dot) org. They are very funny and enligh...

Re: Setting a sobriety date

I am at a very delicate stage where I desperately don't want to be discouraged but desperately want to do the right thing! I am sorry. it was not meant to discourage you. I just wanted to state the fact. If an alcoholics obsessive thinking kicks in, one will go to any lengths to get his/her fix. Th...

Re: Setting a sobriety date

I think I remember seeing that on Last of the Summer Wine!!!! (comedy TV programme in the UK) To be fair I should probably have explained that I asked him to take it away with him. It didn't seem like a bad idea and to be honest, I still don't! But I am sure you are right, and this means that I have...

Re: Setting a sobriety date

Hi everyone - no I'm afraid it didn't work. The day passed and I just carried on drinking. Finally reached the end of the line yesterday, went to see the doctor, we had a good honest chat about my out of control alcohol consumption; he was very kind and caring and understanding (as were the practice...

Re: Setting a sobriety date

Or perhaps you are not alcoholic, and you are in control of what will happen, and you are able to drink in safety. Maybe So do you think you can drink sensibly or not? I don't know. My whole thinking is a mass of contradictions! If you want to drink, go drink. AA will still be here if/when you choo...

Re: Setting a sobriety date

Thanks, as always for taking the time to respond to my question - much appreciated! The reason I asked the question is because I have a significant birthday in three week's time and long ago my husband booked us to go away for two nights in one of our favourite cities. I don't plan to spend the enti...

Setting a sobriety date

Hi everyone, hope you had a good Christmas, walked to the supermarket this morning to buy some tuna, spent ten minutes looking at the wine, walked out again without buying any (tho' I did get the tuna - the no drain kind, quite excited about trying it  ) I've been reading a book about a lad...

Re: Hello again

I could get some if I really wanted to from somewhere.... Then I won't want it. Knowing I have a choice does help me - but be careful, alcohol is cunning, baffling & powerful. Too true! I know I am still very vulnerable and always will be I suppose, even when (not if) I do achieve lasting sobriety....

Re: Hello again

Hi all, thanks for the continuing advice, it's all being taken on board up here in this storage area behind my eyes  Last night was a success. There were two tables set in an L shape; a quiet not drinking/drinking sensibly table (but still having fun) and a loud boozy shouty table. Thank Go...

Re: Hello again

Hi again all, thanks for the welcome and advice - really appreciate it!!!! Feeling confident about this evening - won't say more as I don't want to tempt fate but with my friends at my side think I will be all right. After that have more free time over the weekend (after I've done the housework, wra...

Hello again

Hi everyone I haven't posted for a while because so much has been going on, mainly sorting myself out, and I didn't want to post again until I was once again serious about addressing my drink problem. I thought I had been on the right road before, but it only took a couple of little knocks to realis...
