Re: Cheapest Big Books?

Can a group buy books from them independently, or must they go through a committee? Is it a matter of group conscious in your opinion? For a group, it's entirely up to the group. I simply advocate for an informed conscience. Eg knowing what happens to any discount, or whether we may be acting contr...

Re: Cheapest Big Books?

AAWS offers a bulk discount. Area Literature Committees use it to help fund other service committees.

Re: Step 2 Keeping it Simple

[quote="Theo50"]I often wonder why there are so many posts explaining the Steps of what so many refer to as a simple program. [\quote] It is a simple program for complicated people. It's not an easy program. Unfortunately, many overcomplicate it, and read into it words that are not written. IMO part...

Re: Alcohol and trying to conceive - hubby driving me crazy!

So to cut a long story short i have been sober for 9 weeks now and would like to start trying for family. My hubby wants to wait until i am sober for 6 months before trying as i have in the past not been good at keeping promises regarding my drinking. I just think he is being unreasonable as i feel...

Re: He broke up with me to focus on his sobriety

he is interested in someone, who I think he met in rehab. So, is this typical? It's not unusual. Nothing to do with AA as such, because AA don't run any rehabs. And does it mean he's really not focusing on sobriety even tho he claims he's active in meetings etc. I'm totally confused as his behavior...

Perhaps you need to work on your fears, no matter what he does. Alanon could help.

Re: Depression and AA

I have been feeling very depressed lately and I get major anxiety about going to meetings. I started seeing a therapist and I am hoping that helps. At this point I have not been to a meeting in over a week. The thing is that I feel better now that I’m not going to meetings. I’m not questioning whet...

Re: 2 months of sobriety and Driving my partner up wall

When I got here I had a huge sense of relief. Finally, a solution to the problem! I kept talking about it, and didn't understand why everyone else wasn't as excited as I was. I also started looking for solutions to other people's problems. The truth is that I was still acting on self-will. Still the...

Re: I want to get stuck into step 4 before Christmas

What I was trying to say in my post is that I find Christmas & New Year the most difficult part of the year. Many of us do, even when sober. It’s really not alcohol that’s the problem, I believe it’s the stress of having to do lots of extra stuff, or mix with people we don’t normally mix with. I st...

Re: I want to get stuck into step 4 before Christmas

Yes my take on the powerlessness is I am powerless once I take that first drink but I know if I don't work the program that I WILL drink at some point. OK, if you read this back to yourself, do you see where it has a slight gap in logic? It may help to see that Step 1 is admitting 2 things, not jus...

Re: Acceptance & Expectations

Contact his landlord, if you know who that is. Or contact the relevant authorities who deal with noise nuisance. Tell them the behaviour must stop completely or you will take the matter further (if you're willing to do so). Acceptance isn't about passively doing nothing about a problem, it's also ab...

Re: Did I relapse?

I am 2.5 weeks in and the ther day we went out with my husband and my girls. I decided to have just one drink and that’s all I had. My drinking problem lies in when I am out with friends and I have no one there to control me like my husband. So with just one drink do I now have to start over with d...

Re: How to do aa without god?

Thanks but isn't believing in a higber power just another way of sayi v that you believe in a deity? See, being an atheist means that I do not believe in any god or or suoer natural deity. So, by saying my higher power would mean basically being untrue to myself. Were you able to stay sober on your...

IMO this begs the question: what on earth were you saying that would cause such a response? I sense there's more to this than you're letting on here.

Re: Is liquor 'only a symptom'?

If alcohol is the problem, I have a quick and easy solution for you: just don't drink. If that be the case, what's truly disturbing would be the very existence of AA. Cessation of alcohol consumption is a prerequisite to alcoholic recovery (the Steps in AA). It's impossible to face reality and recov...
