Re: My Greatest Fear

Thanks, Brock. Yeah, I'm gonna try to come around more. I missed everyone. Unfortunately, my lovely mother who I was caring for passed away in July so I have more time on my hands now.

Re: My Greatest Fear

Looking like an idiot... Ever since I was very young, I have always had a very extreme reaction to feeling embarrassed or humiliated. I remember being about 8 years old and realising that every time I was 'told-off' by an adult it would cause me to burst into tears. I hated this about myself and, e...

Re: Can a geriatric teetotaler be a latent alcoholic?

To the OP, good luck with your friend. You sound like a kind person. It sounds like Al-Anon and ACOA would be good fits for him. As an aside: I have also heard many people being told "Don't fear going to an AA meeting as everyone is there for the same reason" and I have told people the same. I would...

Re: Mouthwash?

Seems like the simple solution if you have concerns is to switch to mouthwash without alcohol.

Re: Is AA membership declining?

I didn't see any negativity in Mich's post. A question was posed and he answered honestly with facts. We come to AA expecting it to be a safe place to speak. I appreciate your contribution, mich!

Re: newcomer?

Thank goodness you are seeking help now. Can you imagine this life for the next 40 years like many of us have done? You have so many good experiences to look forward to sober. Things many of us missed and will never get back. Like Avaneesh said, find a meeting and go and let them know you need help....

Re: New and scared

Welcome, LMDM! Have you considered going to a meeting? You can find local meetings by googling "Alcoholics Anonymous, your city, your state". You say that you drink every day so you may want to find a meeting that starts before you normally get started drinking. As Noels said, just go and listen and...

You sound a lot like me, Noels. I switch stations constantly in the car looking for the next good song whether it be Pink Floyd one minute or The Statler Brothers the next! HA!

Re: FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Thanks, Noels. I never saw it that way til you brought it up. I always thought that what every woman needed was a WIFE!

But I still think those polygamist women are onto something. 2 or 3 wives to divvy up the responsibilities. Hmmmmm.

Re: Plugging HA home group at AA meetings?

My home group has HA in the name, which makes it obvious it's not an AA meeting. I know my home group isn't Heroin Anonymous, lol. I'm just asking because I honestly don't know what the rule of thumb is on it and I don't want to seem disrespectful towards AA or the people of the meeting. What is th...

Re: Insomnia and vomiting

Welcome! I have some thoughts I would like to share in response to your post, but I'm short on time right now so I will just say this. Tapering isn't working for you and cold turkey is dangerous. You might consider going to the e.r. for detox. You probably need to get on IV fluids for dehydration an...

Re: Hi all

Thanks, guys, for understanding the point I was trying to make. (Maybe I'm not as nutty as they say - HA!) Sometimes the way we word something, no matter how good our intentions, can lead to a serious misunderstanding.

Re: Plugging HA home group at AA meetings?

Shimmer, It just occurred to me, you are creating a problem where none exists. When asked to state your home group, you are stating the organization that you belong to, NOT your home group. I am a member of Alcoholics Anonymous but my HOME GROUP is called the Westside Group. So if I were asked the q...

Re: Plugging HA home group at AA meetings?

Heroin Anonymous is your HOME GROUP? Mine is not Alcoholics Anonymous - AA is the name of the organization I belong to. If I were asked my HOME GROUP, I would say the "Westside Group".

Call me :| "confused".

Re: Happy Happy Happy

For anyone interested in trivia, Tiny Bubbles was recorded by Don Ho, a famous Hawaiian dude who was Hawaii's version of the great Elvis Presley. Hey, has anyone spotted Elvis lately? Hint: He'd be about 90 now, so he probably walks with a cane.
