Re: relapse after a long time sober
Robert, I have been away from F2F meetings for 8 of my 9 dry years. I try and get on here as often as I can though so I can stay connected with people who recognize the nature of this disease. What you have experienced is a slip and it does not negate the 12 years of sobriety you had prior. What I w...

Re: whats 13th stepping
Well the contents of this thread have got me through today. Excellent comment by someone about how once we get sober, co-dependency is the next biggest issue.pcm54 wrote: This site and the on line meetings have been lifesavers for me. Thanks for being here!

Re: Addiction versus medical condition
Mitcl74, I am not sure if you are alcoholic. At least the problem described in your post does not appear to be alcoholism. So although you are free to post here, I am not sure that people on this forum may be able to assist with your problem. Alkies are not experts on everything, although we may thi...

I have not had a drink/drug since 3rd August 2007.
If I had to take a drink tomorrow, I do not care if people find out. I do care though that I will know I slipped. That is enough reason for me to stay on the wagon.

And so he died early this week..
A relative of mine passed away from multiple organ failure this week. He was only 40. He'd been drinking day and night for the last 10 years. His father and mother sat by and did nothing even though the signs were evident since 2001-2002. Some relatives tried getting him into rehab and even AA. The ...

Re: 7 Year Itch
Meetings should be "part of your life" and not "your life". If you are bored at meetings that is totally normal but it is upto to you to give back and in return hopefully get something out of it. Your recovery is dependent on you and you alone. Others can/may help but staying sober is upto you. We a...

Re: Outed as recovering - for political reasons: How to Handle?
Hi Mary, This is Joey from India. May I ask why you feel it is important to get the alcohol situation in your comunity under control ? If I understand correctly, the bars and pubs are making money at the cost of people and it is doing a lot of damage. AS you know Alcohol is bad for an alcoholic, how...

To be honest, a spell in prison sounds nice; three meals per day; no bills, and I get to play pool all day; they even have AA meetings. We have a nice prison regime in the UK; and I could come out feeling all clean and spiritual - my debt to society paid. I'm not sure where Mrs Ken or daughter woul...

AA jokes
A girl working with her sponsor asked "Where can I read about my sex problems?" Sponsor said, "That's covered on page 69." Later at home the page number got jumbled as she tried to remember and she turned to page 96 for her sex problems. "Do not be discouraged if your prospect does not respond at on...

Re: When sharing your ESH, what carries a strong message?
War stories are an important part of the share , they help addicts identify with the bottoms that the person sharing has gone through and that is what gives them the courage to get sober. After all if the speaker was in the same boat that the listener is and could get sober, then the listener can as...

Honesty is a great asset, especially if you feel you have little choice :) I second that. Honesty is a great asset that can be used for many purposes, deception being one of them. Someone on here said the alkie should be given a chance because he admitted his problme and so appears to be trustworth...

It's a personal decision really.
Had I been in your shoes, I too would be inclined to reject the alcoholic. I think it is basic human nature to be a little skeptical .
