If I'm not sober for myself 1st, then all the other " important " stuff ( people ) is lost. This has been my personal experience, however, when I wanted to drink, it was way more powerful than those family bonds and relationships including that of my wife and kids.

i go to meetings for many reasons, but one of my simplest reminders is that when I was in the grips of active addiction ( drinking ;) ) I would have been drunk on this day, so in sobriety I have to do the same. I had an old sponsor who told me on many occasions that 90 % of life was just suiting up ...
