Re: Sponsoring someone with a dual addiction?

As an alcoholic with drug, porn, control and other selfish addictions, I was fortunate that no one tried to analyze who would be best qualified to be my sponsor. Instead, I had the desperation needed to seek out help from someone who had found an answer. The directions for the Solution and subsequen...

Re: Easing off from the Programme of AA!

Hi Ken! Just checking back in from a bit of a hiatus, myself. It's the busy season in auto sales, so I have had to devote much time to keeping my employees supplied with product to sell, but...... ....I'm lucky enough to have a Sponsor who can lend me some insight on this topic. His reference is str...

Re: 12 Step Question

Always always always look for a closed mouthed trusted friend. Or a fuzzy stuffed animal. Nice new avatar, Karl! I think that talk in, around, surrounding, and outside of AA meetings can sometimes be disseminated without regard to a member's best interest. That meaning: Be careful what you divulge ...

Re: Day 1

Overwhelmed is OK. All of us have earned that stripe. Going it alone is not OK. None of us made it by ourselves. Sticking around is recommended. e-aa is open day and night. If there are no immediate responses to posts, there's old posts to puruse. When the old way stopped working for me, I needed to...

Re: We Must Learn To Love Ourselves.

For myself... It's not up to me to be loved or forgiven. Those qualities are entirely the prerogative of God and others. It is up to me to love and forgive others through God's blessing and direction. Everything, and I mean everything, falls into place after I get out of my own self-directed worry a...

Re: P. 58 How it Works (Rarely have we seen a Person Fail)

As a Sponsor of several dozen alcoholics over the years, my experience parallels that of the content in How it Works . The majority of those that fail balk. They do not continue the pursuit of a Spiritual Solution out of unwillingness, incapability of honesty, or allowing intellect to interfere with...

Re: An exact account of wrongs

Spilling the beans in an open meeting on this type of information is not recommended. Open meetings, unfortunately are not as anonymous as one might wish. I've encountered dozens of people who have revealed dishonest, illegal or deviant sexual behaviors in meetings and later regretted ever doing so....

Re: Your son is gone... Let him go

There is a no-fail solution to find out what pulls at heartstrings. When my emotional compass was starting to gyrate again after doing the Steps, I was fortunate to be equipped with the tool of a Daily Inventory. There was still some dishonesty. I found that I couldn't always keep myself from lying....

Re: Problems with sponsor

I am reminded of the most amazing promise found in the book. In the Tenth Step..... "And we have ceased fighting anything or anyone - even alcohol. For by this time sanity will have returned." Ceased fighting meant exactly what is written and promised for me. Anger, pride and defensiveness were take...

Re: Problems with sponsor

My Sponsor showed me how he recovered from alcoholism through a Spiritual Experience. I did the work that was suggested and received a Spiritual Experience of my own. He has since moved along to help others, and I have done the same.

Re: 4th Step

There is an urgency, as is reflected in the examples of people who pay the ultimate sacrifice. To get a flavor of how soon the steps can be done, please take some time to read the entire personal story He Sold Himself Short , by Earl T., from the Big Book. A major highlight of the account is the one...

Re: relationship change after getting sober

When I compiled the last pages of my resentment inventory, I had a guide to follow: COLUMN 4 Resentment Inventory 6. Before beginning our next column, repeat the THIRD STEP Prayer. We ask for God's will, not ours, to be done. For those who have wronged us, we pray to be freed from our anger. For the...
