Re: First Time

How did you start ? One August afternoon, while working from home, was unable to walk my document through during a conference call. Until then "I was managing my drinking". That was a moment of realization that I have to do something. That moment I looked at the window and at the sky and asked for ...

Re: Help Me!

Initially I went to a meeting a day. Some go more. But, you can surround yourself with AA material even when you are not in a meeting. Dr. Bob our co-founder talks about keeping simple and putting first things first. Before the thirst fades, you might want to find a person who relatively has a good ...

Re: "What is the Role of Sponsorship?"

Is it required that I do step 5 with my sponsor. I've begun doing this step with my therapist. The step does not say that it has to be your sponsor.

If the therapist knows what they are doing, yes.

Re: Help Me!

Welcome to the forum. Yes, I can relate to the experience. I want to quote the section from "There is a Solution": But what about the real alcoholic? He may start off as a moderate drinker; he may or may not become a continuous hard drinker; but at some stage of his drinking career he begins to lose...

Re: Difficult when it’s all around you

I’m 207 days sober and it has been a while since I have attended a AA meeting as the one I was attending started getting a bit on the religious side of things. Take a closer look at what powerlessness and un-manageability really means to you by reading the first 3 chapters. Are you really powerless...

Re: Conflict with fellows (?)

Thanks for your reply, my effort to reach out was not well received(I don't think they were ready) I guess all I can do is wait and hope for the best Unfortunately we cant do much about it. We try to clean our side of the street. You think everybody in the rooms are working the steps and are placed...

Re: Conflict with fellows (?)

There is something called making amends. Maybe you can sit with this person and reconcile if it works it works but atleast you dont have to live with a resentment.

Re: STEP 4

Dont go to the 2nd column (causes). Pray and pen all the resentments one shot (1st column). Then you go to the 2nd column. That way alteast you can work with your sponsor on the ones you could complete. You can even sit with the sponsor and complete the rest with atleast the resentments nailed (1st ...

Re: Questions Heard At Meetings.

Well done on taking the first step! I can honestly say that this safe space has contributed to me be sober for a whole month. I did drink this weekend on a girls trip in Vienna but I made sure I drank two glasses of water for every glass of alcohol and woke up feeling good. I've decided not to beat...

Re: New country in year 1

Welcome to the forum. Yes, we live in a world where people simply dont seem to find time. So much riding on our back. If you get closer you could find some social events especially in summer. Also, my sincere suggestion will be for you to get plugged into some youtube/podcasts that deal with sobriet...

Re: Frustrated

.well, it's Wednesday and one drink will not hurt. I could totally relate to that. Thats because my internal conditions came out un-glued. I got restless, irritable and discontented and first thing that came to my mind was that 1 24 ounce can of beer, that will get me that sense of ease and comfort...

Re: Frustrated

I stop and start and repeat that cycle and I am beyond frustrated with myself. :( Welcome to the forums. Yeah, starting again is the problem. The big book (Alcoholics Anonymous) uses several stories to illustrate that. They use the term "peculiar mental twist" that precedes that first drink. For ex...

Re: Higher power

I suppose I learned that I cannot be one that sticks to moderation.

Yes, the craving part keeps us going after we take a drink or two. But the issue is with the mind. I always comes up with a grand idea that this time it will be different.

Re: I Failed

Here I am, drunk, and pondering my misfortunes and how I cannot stop drinking. I have two New Amsterdam Vodkas staring at me, after a pint of Fleishman's Vodka, and four vodka shooters...I don't know how much that is, but I know I am a fool. I posted about relapse, and here I am relapsing again. I ...
