Re: choice

"more will be revealed " For me, its more clarity about my condition. As I dug deep into the book, I see how conditions lead people back into the first drink. Recent example being a brethren, was sober close to 9 months, relapsed. He was doing so great working the steps and organizing zoom meetings...

Re: Can AA actually work for me?

In the book "Power of now" Eckhart Tolle mentions we have to use the words has pointers. And thats what we suggest in AA too. We could replace those words something like "the process could restore me to sanity". First of all, we encourage people to understand what they mean by powerlessness and un-m...

Re: choice

Yes, as simple as that. The insanity of that first drink has been removed. All you have to do is stay spiritually fit. Then you experience the 10th step promise.

Re: Getting Wife to Choose Sobriety

Does anyone have an idea how I can get her to open up her eyes. I cannot make this decision for her. See how long it took for us to realize we were powerless. And it various from one person to another. I have ran into people at the correction facility serving for vehicular manslaughter, yet wonderi...

Re: What is self-will according to the program?

There are some examples as part of the 3rd step: Our actor is self-centered—ego-centric, as people like to call it nowadays. He is like the retired business man who lolls in the Florida sunshine in the winter complaining of the sad state of the nation; the minister who sighs over the sins of the twe...

Re: Acceptance

We accept/realize/admit whatever but then then next thing one has to do is ask that ask the question, what do I have to do? I have heard so many people share that "I knew I am an alcoholic but i kept drinking". There comes a point where the internal guide wakes up and directs us to take action. What...

Re: Sometimes Quickly, Sometimes Slowly

The mind is always out their to do this. Its role is to be in future or in the past. Lot of "What ifs". If you keenly observe it, thats all it is. As we work through the reminder of the steps. We slowly start accepting other people and ourselves. Letting go will help. Mind is resistance. Somewhere i...

Re: How many of us are out there?

I will be sober today. I feel confident I will be sober tomorrow, but hope at long term recovery often seems impossible and makes me incredibly sad sometimes. If we are alcoholic, our mind will con us into drinking again, if we dont realize that we are alcoholic and dont take necessary steps. Thats...

Re: Making amends

We are trying to build a new attitude and part of the process is the amend process. I see you are coming to a conclusion you dont owe amends in most cases. My question will be on the 2nd category of people. Are you in good relationship now? Are there is still friction and do you have to deal with th...

Re: Not at rock bottom ..but asking questions

Id be grateful to hear what you think of whether what i say about guilt/ shame/ secrecy makes any bit of sense at all to anyone. Id also love to know in what ways life is better without alcohol ...i haven't even considered this as a possibility. Guilt is something we all have because we think we ha...

Re: Unmanageability of step 1

Internal unmanageability is very important because its very subtle. Most just focus on powerlessness after we take that first drink. If just the first drink is problem, we have a very simple solution, just say no like the formal first lady said. What happens after we put down the drink is very criti...

Re: Big Book hard to follow

It's a fear thing aswell as In what people think of me when I share something.
I like what AggieJim wrote, go back and read that. Thats exactly what it is. Even if they do, its their character defect. Not yours. They should be ashamed of it.

Re: Big Book hard to follow

Need to understand different people communicate better in different mode. Conveying something among an audience requires skills. Even today its hard for me convey something in meetings. Listening is better. If I have to talk to someone, I can always go up to them after the meeting and chat with them.
