Re: Sharing our story

I have been seeking a meaning to life than does not revolve around me being an alcoholic. My adult life (35 years) has been sober. Life in AA, or more accurately, the pursuit of conscious contact along with people in a fellowship, has been incredible. I've reflected on my spiritual life and my -ism...

Re: "Recovery"

if you google 'russell brand recovery the program' you can get a pdf of the steps with many interesting questions to ask yourself. Questions for each step. Very thought provoking imo.

Re: Sharing our story

The inventory in itself was enough self-deprecation for me. The person you do your 5th step with, if in the program, will reflect back to you that they did a worse thing. So it is not about self deprecation. They will also tell you to list out some strengths. And they are in a position to help you ...

Re: How many times should I read the big book?

When you go to a big book meeting, take your book and read along with that part read in the meeting. You will over a period of time be very familiar with the big book and what many people think it means. After a long period of time doing this, I practically have it memorized.

Re: "Recovery"

Did he work the 12 Step of AA?
Yes. The book is sort of a guide to working the steps. I find his use of the f word to be funny and mind opening.

"Recovery"

The book "Recovery" by Russell Brand is a very fascinating rendition of the 12 Steps. When my first sponsor worked with me, I used the Big Book, the 12 and 12, The Little Red Book and pamphlets from Hazeldon. I read each step in each book, a little each day, and journaled. I completed each step in t...

Are you a member of AA? have you worked the steps?
Believe in yourself. What these others think of you is none of your business.

Re: How to work the work in from the start!?

Brock is right to mention that sponsors have different speeds at which they take people through the steps. When I was new, I really wanted to feel better as soon as possible. I was an emotional mess. So, besides the Big Book, I got the 12x12 and The Little Red Book (which is also on the steps). When...

Re: Spiritual sickness brought on by drinking?

good topic. Which came first? The chicken or the egg?

Actually, quite apart from AA teaching, my personal opinion. My spirit is not and has never been sick. It is my disconnection from it which causes me to feel sick.

35 Years

... and still going to meetings. I love the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous. I've had a sober adult life. For that I am grateful. I wouldn't have got sober without AA and wouldn't have stayed sober without AA. "Happy, joyous and free" was a long time coming, but I live there now. On page 40 of th...

Re: Coming back and have questions

Check out the pamphlet "Questions and Answers on Sponsorship" http://www.aa.org/pdf/products/p-15_Q&AonSpon.pdf and then find a sponsor who can help you according to that. Some sponsors really do think that to sponsor someone, they need to read through the big book word for word. I would find that t...
