Re: Is there anyone else like me?

Alcoholism is a disease. If you have it, you can't lick it by yourself and it will continue as long as you trigger it. Modern neuro science explains the systems in the brain which cause continued drunken-ness, until you do something different. But read the books and learn for yourself. You can read ...

You need to get out of yourself. Go help someone else.

The glass door had a circle and triangle symbol with AA in the middle. This was the place. I opened the door. I stood at the top of a set of stairs leading down to a basement. Looking down, all I could see was a barf colored shag rug... I went down anyway. And found the most wonderful fellowship. Ye...

Re: Non Alcoholic Binging Experiences

There are neurological explanations for binge watching. There are neurological explanations for alcoholism. One common factor is dopamine reward.

Re: Too young to share at 3 months - thoughts?

The most interesting part of any share is "what happened", and then "what its like now." Of course you have experience, strength and hope. Share these.

I find anybody's drunkalog funny but not that enlightening.

Re: Help Me!

When I was new, my sponsor made me memorize "How It Works" from chapter 5 of the Big Book. Then I could lay in bed and repeat it until I went to sleep. This kept my mind out of dark places. If you don't have a big book, or don't go to meetings so you don't know what I am talking about, then google "...

Re: Help Me!

When you are new, I suggest going to as many meetings as you can. Meetings are much cheaper than treatment. However, if you live in a small town, I'd probably go less, and then drive to a bigger town and find meetings.

Re: Do Open Meetings Vary By City / Country?

In the Houston area, almost all the meetings were open and they read that statement. Sometimes nursing students sat in and they passed if called on. One time, a non-alcoholic came and tried to talk about other problems. We said she was welcome to sit in the meeting but had to share about alcoholism....

Re: Staying Sober through Divorce and Prison

well I'm going to PRISON anyway, who cares if I drink
Don't assume you know what the judge will do. I've seen tons of miracles. People show up with their papers and an honest plan of sobriety and go home on probation with a breathalizer in the car.

Re: "What is the Role of Sponsorship?"

my experience the first time through the steps:
steps 1-3 , 2 to 3 weeks each
step 4 , 3 weeks
step 5 , two meetings which were an hour each and a week apart
steps 6-8 , 2 to 3 weeks each
step 9 , as long as it takes
steps 10-12 , ongoing

repeat as often as you want to grow.

Re: AA While Serving in the Military

I used to attend meetings with an active Coast Guard guy. He attended civilian meetings when in town. But when on ship, he had to rely on the big book or AA speakers on youtube.

This isn't what you want to hear, but early on, I was told, "you have to be a friend to make a friend." So, I'd suggest getting involved in service work. Guaranteed friends for life.
