Re: Sponsorship after long time sobriety

I have 34 years of sobriety and haven't had a sponsor for about 20 years.

But I do have friends in the program to talk to.

Re: CoronaVirus - How can we be helpful?

One section of our group is putting together zoom meetings. The other section? I received a long e-mail mandating a list of disinfecting chores for the meeting leader to carry out before and after the meeting with their own supplies. Plus no more than 10 per room. And don't come to the meeting if yo...

Re: I don't know where to begin

There was a time in my life when I lived in a small town. I was in management at the one big employer. I didn't want to be seen at AA so I drove once a week to a nearby city and attended meetings there. At the time, I had years of sobriety. For a new person, I'd still recommend driving over nothing,...

Re: Corona Virus - How can we be helpful?

Many people, including me, have suddenly stopped going to meetings. I'm concerned about newcomers. Most of us who stopped meetings are the old timers.

Re: 24 hour Sobriety plan vs Permanent Sobriety

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference Living one day at a time Enjoying one moment at a time Accepting hardship as the pathway to peace Taking as He did this sinful world as it is not as I would ha...

AA is a spiritual fellowship. Figure out how to be "IN" the meeting, not at it.

Re: In what ways has the Fellowship of AA changed

The shift from 12 step to attending more meetings. Also wearing away from the basic text.
Actually, many of the old timers who were there when I got sober (34 years ago), went to meetings every night. I was so grateful to listen to them.

Re: In what ways has the Fellowship of AA changed

No smoking. Seriously, I am now an "old timer" I guess, 34 years. I think that when I was new, more old timers came to the meetings, often every night. Everyone came to the Friday birthday celebrations and most of us went to dinner after. Now, I don't notice as much regular attendance from old...

Re: question about gifting coins

I received a fancy coin one year, from a friend, but it was given at the birthday meeting. Others have received fancy coins purchased by friends also. No problem.

Re: Modem Step 4

Neurologically speaking, hand writing activates different circuits in the brain than typing. I'd recommend writing, and you should be able to read your own handwriting.

However, don't quibble about this. Just get it done somehow.

Re: New to AA, but not Recovery

Last night I was in a meeting where a guy mentioned that he had just met another man who had worked in a treatment center but had got drunk after 17 years. The poor man had thought that since he spent all day in a treatment center that he didn't need meetings and had quit doing and of his own step w...

Re: Help Me Respond to Someone Who Wants To Amend

Sounds like your SIL is new to recovery and not yet on sound footing. Decades of bad behavior cannot be "amended" that quickly. It is ok to tell her to wait. Might even be good for her.

Re: Addicts in AA meetings?

In the past 2 years, I have read about 10 books on opioid addiction and other drug addictions and neuro science. I've come to believe that it is good to put heroin addicts on other opioids like suboxone, or naltrexone. But it really is putting them on a better drug, not clean. I get the purpose and ...
