Re: Could use some words of encouragement!

Hello; you're reminding me of my 1st "real job" in sobriety. Teaching adult upgrading education (ie. GED) It was great, even though I was by far the youngest person there, It was before "package learning", so I had to be a lot more involved as a teacher. But these guys were great. For the most part,...

Re: AA meeting in treatment

Hello there: You might want to look to your AA service district for some help. The CPC co-ordinator (Cooperation with the Professional Community) can meet with the professional(s) involved and provide the Do's & Don'ts of AA to them, so that the volunteer effort isn't lost by things not of AA. By ha...

Re: struggling...

Sorry, I haven't read any of the rest of this string. But your last paragraph held specific resonance with my experience, growing up in an active AA/Alanon home life, attending Open Meetings every Sunday afternoon. the AA Traditions were our family rules. I had heard the stories and knew, this thing...

Re: "virgin" drinks and non alcoholic beer...

from the point of view of an allergy, it would be analogous to eating a chocolate bar with nuts in it. Your throat wouldn't swell up, if you only had a "little" ?

when does the chamber explode?

besides, AA offers a whole, new life. Not a substitute.

all for the taking of 12 simple steps!

Re: My mother.

Why aren't we suggesting the 12 Step fellowship of Alanon ? Family and friends are sorely affected, and hobbled by their own angst. We cannot live a life of someone else, but we can live the best we can be. And, with these simple steps, bring the program home in our own lives. Carrying the message t...

Re: November

My AA B'day was November 19. Home group celebrated Nov. 21, Open meeting night. A young woman, whom I had introduced to AA and had recently celebrated 11 years sober, shared. I had never heard her story before. It was a riveting account, I found we shared many experience... At one point, she paid tr...

Re: Why should we trust God?

I attended a BB study with the Joe & Charlie tapes and I could see where these local myths were coming from. For every concept that they cleared up, there was a little dust thrown and had to settle somewhere else. But then, change is like that. Disturbs the present. no status quo. And we are Willing...

Re: Willingness

Perhaps you need to "call" her on what you see her doing? Sponsorship is a 2-way street... and if you can't be honest and speak freely, it isn't happening. "There but for the Grace of God, Go I.". Realizing that with anonymity it could be me. We're in this together. Besides, with the stress of illne...

Re: Spiritual Principles.

All or nothing, just like our disease - alcoholism. Is it little wonder that AA should use it's own alcoholic experience, to maintain spiritual fitness? Our nearness to the lash of alcohol. Aren't these really "bottle gang" rules? the Traditions. the ultimate authority is in what happens, not in who...

Isn't that the day I Surrender to the Truth about me?
Admit Step One to myself, and stop fighting it.

From then on, it all happens in just One Day.

Isn't this really, the old statistic, quoted by AA members themselves? That 1/3 never go back drinking, staying sober since their 1st meeting... and another 1/3 coming back sometime. Where the misunderstanding of statistics comes in, by using that as a multiplier on the more commonly quoted prevalen...

Re: Every Journey begins with a first step.

I awoke to a new day. I had a shower and shampoo. I read my daily meditations. I sought daily contact. I rested and meditated. I went to my therapy session. I rested, and wrestled with myself. I chatted with AA's online. I printed my tax adj. request. I rested again, heating pad. I had supper and wa...

Re: AA and religion etc...

Funny, when I was just thinking that it's the power of belief
in changing life for the better... my source and inspiration.

Rather than more words & lip service to non-existent ideals,
keeping me shackled to guilt and to shame.
Or whatever leftover heap, I inherited as someone else.
