Re: AA While Serving in the Military

Hi Bub, I see I'm a little late getting to this post, but good on you for getting help. I wish I'd done it earlier. I was out of the Navy before I admitted I have a problem but I'm in the Merchant Marine and meetings aren't available to me 6 months out of the year. I travel with a Big Book and try t...

Re: Hello

Check out a meeting or two. The first one is the hardest, but it's all in your head. You will be pleasantly surprised by the friendly faces, great advice, and the similarities between their stories and your own. Everyone in there was where you are right now.

Re: Merry Go Round

I found myself in the same boat! I recognized the problem, knew I had to do something about it, but a few days/weeks into sobriety the constant thoughts about how great a drink would be right about now we begin to take hold again. I've only got about 3 months in right now, and that is the longest I'...

Re: Step 4 help please. Is this fear or resentment?

I know this is an older thread, but I can relate to your problem regarding your ex. When I first separated from my ex wife 5 years ago, I had similar feelings. I couldn't wait to be done with her, but as soon as we officially split I started having contradicting feelings. Kind of like a really bad h...

Re: I’m getting so much more out of AA than just not drinkin

I agree completely with AA being beneficial in other aspects of life as well. Since I started working the steps I've noticed I have much better control of my temper, and things that used to piss me off don't (some... not all!) I've noticed that coworkers that really erked me don't bother me so much ...

Re: New to E-AA

Thanks Brock! I've been working offshore rigs for about 10 years now. Like I said, the times on the rig are easy but as soon as I hit the beach the real challenge begins... especially when in the shipyard! I'm really excited to find this forum.

Re: Evening check-in

Hi ebear, I like your writing down the positives as well. It keeps your focus on the positives and allows for a little internal self-rewarding. I too suffer from dwelling on negatives which is a major trigger for me. It's so nice to wake up in the morning having not given in to the cravings of the n...

New to E-AA

Greetings! I'm Brian and I'm an Alcoholic. I'm 35 and have been struggling with staying sober for about 5 years. Once my 1st kid was born I admitted I had a problem, dumped out the remaining booze, went to AA meetings, but never really did any step work. I never achieved more than 3 months sober bef...
