Re: Swapping One For The Other!

I think it is important to think about what happens if your sponsor/AA friends are not available for some reason. People get busy, move, relapse, even pass away. What if you have to move, and you could not see your old AA friends that often anymore, this should not lead to a relapse.

Re: If AA is not religious then why do we say the lord's pra

Most meetings I've been at say the Lord's Prayer. I'm Christian so I don't have a problem with the prayer. But, it does bother me, that maybe some people are saying it, who do not genuinely believe what they're saying. But I do know some people, that stand up for the prayer, but don't say it. So I t...

Re: Just need to hear some solution in my life

Yes I can definitely relate because I've moved a few times in the last few years. It is hard to get to new meetings, my experience is if you "tough it out" for a few weeks, you will probably get more comfortable with your new schedule. Unfortunately it is sometimes unavoidable to move, or change you...

Doing the right thing at work

I have a huge resentment against my workplace because I feel like if I try to do the right thing, I'm punished for it and if I do the wrong thing, I'm rewarded. By the way I'm an electrician. A lot of examples I could give, here is a few. Gossip: everyone gossips about other coworkers, and it's like...

Re: My mood last night was 1/10 please help.

i identify with your post though I've never had an addiction to porn. In my own experience: for some reason every time I get sober, around the 2 month mark I get extremely depressed. For me personally, the first couple months sober I'm too worried about cleaning up whatever mess I made last relapse....

Re: Hospital Stays

I have been to detox programs (3-5 days long) in a hospital a few times. It starts with being checked in, some blood work is taken and you are tested for alcohol/drugs in your system. Your belongings are searched to make sure you did not bring in alcohol/drugs. If you are detoxing from alcohol you w...

Re: I can't stop drinking and don't know how to stop:(

The disease of alcoholism can strike at any age. Actually I know a few people in AA that did not have a problem with alcohol until they were middle aged. There is an AA pamphlet called "Do you think you're different?" that has personal stories of AA members. As far as I remember, one of these storie...

Re: Same problems, different sponsors

Google "joe and charlie aa" and a big book study comes up first. Listen to it. Work the steps with it. For step 5, just pick a closed mouth, safe person. Then check out the big book starting at page 86 for daily life. I agree with this. For Step 5, I know a few people that shared with a member of t...

Re: I feel worthless

Maybe another way to look at it, is that things can only get better. Myself and I'm sure a lot of others, have been in your situation. It may help to read some of the stories in the back of the Big Book, or other personal stories of recovery that you can find online. Try to find at least one story y...

Re: Does A.A. Have A Monopoly On "god/higher powers"?

There is an AA book called "Came To Believe", it's a collection of AA member's stories regarding their Higher Power. I went to a meeting once where this book was read and discussed along with "Living Sober". It was very helpful to me.
