Re: So our troubles, are basically of our own making pg 62

Yes!!! So well said. That duality that stems from our sense of individual self and how a situation starring that self is somehow good or bad. It is not real. Of course easier said than done when you are facing a day (or days) when nothing goes your way. Loss of jobs, annoyances, broken shoelaces, ac...

Re: Grieving loss of my dad

Thank you for this share! I literally was just thinking to my self the only reason i put up with my Father is that i might miss him one day. And that fear compromises my well being more often than i care for it to. Definitely curious to.know what your relationship with him was like, before and the t...

Re: Condescension in AA

I'm gonna commit suicide Alcohol is a symptom. It doesn't matter if I stay sober for a while. All it does is bring my core problems to do forefront and exposes it in clear fluorescent light. That is what sobriety feels like. I have deep-rooted psychological damage caused by too much isolation, inte...

Re: Condescension in AA

LOL - ok I know it is probably not funny to you since you are currently annoyed by it, but I am laughing because in my 15 yrs of recovery youve just described the last 7 yrs of meetings. Hahaha and it is funny to me because youve gotta understand that after a while AA becomes habit. The plus side is...

Progress Not Perfection (ugh) - a misquote?

So I recently hit my 15 years and was complaining to my sponsor about the "feeling" of lack of spiritual progress - the seeming glass ceiling of spiritual progress we eventually hit. Of course, he said what most do when you bring such a thing up, "PROGRESS NOT PERFECTION." Intuitively, this phrase j...

Re: Resolving FEAR

I say this prayer way more often than I care to, "God, please remove this fear from me and direct my attention to what you'd have me be."

Re: How Much Work?

Yeah, not a simple answer. "Half Measures Availed us Nothing" does also continue sort of into the Recovered period as well. A friend of mine says "it's like walking up the down escalator, you have to do a certain amount of work to stay in one place - you have to do more work than the escalator to mo...

Rigorous Honesty

Anyone else practiced RIGOROUS Honesty and found it was worth it? So hard sometimes. Here's a current example: My Father has often roped me into financial schemes in which he manages to make money at my expense. But one such time, I had a chance to get some of the money back. He is demanding that $$...

Re: Completely ticked off

SO SO SO SO SO TRUE!! Thanks PaigeB, I was hoping to actually find that passage from the 12x12 today. I might actually post as a topic out of sheer Step 10 admitting when I'm wrong stuff. But yeah - Anger will find a way to kill us. Alcoholics cannot afford such resentments. Your anger is understand...

Re: Elusive Progress

oh wow, great post! I almost FORGOT about those crazy "squirrels" in the brain from early on! You will laugh about them in the future. I remember once a song came on the radio and I had this fond memory of getting wasted to it in a park/field or something - I started to feel sad and really missed dr...

Re: What's the point of meetings?

This is a great question, I've definitely noticed all over the country that a newcomer at a meeting is a rare thing. I think new alcoholics end up Here or online discussion groups first. For a long time meetings are nothing but social events, not a lot of "new" recovery - and I've definitely heard 1...

Re: response to friend making amends

Part of the Amends process is a bit of a "how can I make it up to you?" sort of question or implication. Maybe your response to that can be some behavior that remedies what you actually want amends for without having to specifically bring it up? I suppose if this happened to me, I'd probably let it ...

Re: step 6 and 7

The next step would be to move on to the next steps. In my experience, having a sponsor for steps 8 and 9 is extremely valuable. There are some names on step 8 and you might need to worry about and think you do OR there are some names you might want to add to steps 8 and 9 that you might have missed...
