Re: Character defect - Money management

Spending issues have never been one of my character defects. I was a frugal alcoholic. I drank beer and a 30 pack of Bud Lite came out to less than $1/ beer. Even when I was out I still was the one that got screwed when buying rounds as I always had the cheapest drink in the group. I have always liv...

Re: New Slogans

Here's a slogan about the "body allergy": "Our body's are allergic to alcohol and every time we put it in our bodies, our brain’s reward circuits are flooded with dopamine and it produces feelings of euphoria." Is it any wonder why we start to crave it? Who doesn't enjoy feelings of euphoria. Non-al...

Re: New Slogans

We must also never forget that not taking that first drink for many of us managed to get us walking through the doors of AA sober. Of course, i think in the pamphlet about AA it talks about it. That initial awakening keeps us going for few days/weeks/months, thats the one which brings us into the f...

Re: New Slogans

I can sense sarcasm miles away. Anyways. I see tragedy in the fellowship where some people are misled when they conclusion that powerlessness is about losing control after we take that first drink and that leads to slogans like 'if you dont take the first drink you wont get drunk' or 'Even if your ...

Re: The great obsession of every abnormal drinker

NO, a miracle to not drink on a daily basis for the rest of my life. I consider it a miracle that I have been sober for the last 2 1/2 years. I am not expecting any miracles to happen to allow me to drink in safety. I think you are confusing my posts. My point was regarding my mind's association bet...

Re: The great obsession of every abnormal drinker

Actually I am hoping for miracles in AA. Isn't that what we are all hoping for? I am trying to have an open mind so I can find my understanding of a HP. I considered turning my life and will over to a HP as a miracle. If the BB states to have an open mind for that must I close my mind to everything ...

Re: The great obsession of every abnormal drinker

Thanks for the reply avaneesh912. I don't think luck will help me, but I do plan to continue working the AA program to the best of my ability. Since you keyed in on that single line in my reply I will try to elaborate as taken out of context, that single statement alone could be misinterpreted. Whil...

Re: The great obsession of every abnormal drinker

"The idea that somehow, someday he will control and enjoy his drinking is the great obsession of every abnormal drinker. The persistence of this illusion is astonishing. Many pursue it into the gates of insanity or death." My love affair with alcohol started in my last year of high school and really...

Re: Are we powerless over alcohol?

Let me ask this. "If I was a Normal Drinker (I am not and don't know but can imagine) would I put this much thought into what a Normal Drinker, not being Powerless over Alcohol/Life?" Then, if there was a Cure/Drug or other, for the Obsession to drink, would I survive on it without the Program, Fel...

Re: Are we powerless over alcohol?

In fact, if it wasn't for the extreme power of craving, we wouldn't need to fear that first drink as we would have no problem stopping after one. Go past the doctors opinion and see how many times the word mind and mental appear through out the book. Right in Bills story later half of it, they talk...

Re: Are we powerless over alcohol?

Nobody is denying that. Couple of things. Craving is not the main problem of the alcoholic. The mind is. Joe and Charlie talk about it. They would say we can do nothing about the body but we can do something about the mind. And thats where the rest of the program comes into our rescue. Secondly, we...

Re: Spiritual or religious?

I don't want to arouse controversy about religion or about the existence of a Creator . I am here to address my addiction to alcohol, by understanding my soul (human soul). That spirit that rejoices when I see a bottle of wine before I drink it! . Why does my soul torment me when I think to stop dr...

Re: Spiritual or religious?

"They had told of a simple religious idea and a practical program of action" I am not god. That is pretty simple. I am not sure of what to make of your reply Paige. I had quoted from the BB from Bill's Story, regarding the conversation between Bill and his friend, Ebby Thacher. The door opened and ...
