Re: How do you personally cope with the Holiday Blues?

Sounds trite, cliche, and simple but I have taken steps to downsize and simplify everything in my life. For me it works. Just a thought...Festivus?

Re: A Firey Message

Great story with a deceptively simple moral written in flame. I like. A simple message only after you hear it. How imaginative.

Re: Pain Medication

Welcome Matt!! I never had a pill problem either. However, if I am in a position to have to take a controlled substance such as pain meds, I like them. I like them a lot. I LIKE THEM TOO MUCH!!!!! But I have seen AA members try to go without proper medicine when they are in extreme pain like you......

Re: Is running, cycling or triathlon part of your recovery?

Research has shown(too lazy to cite now but if called on will) that exercise, especially vigorous excercise affect one's health, mood, and outlook in a positive way. I take part in all three and find that the possibility of relapse is least when engaged in such activities.

A quick glance down the list of topics seem to touch on thornier social issues. Yes we are here to get sober but do we need to live in a bubble to do so?

Re: Coffee and AA

Apparantly however an innocuous query earns me a stern lecture. I don’t call this an innocuous query - My point is that caffeine is an addictive, psychoachtive drug. People in aa obviously have problems with a specific psychoachtive drug. Members with experience in AA try to advise newcomers, if yo...

Re: Romantic relationships

The fact that you had ulterior motives with a fellow AA member does not mean that most(western) people can't have purely platonic fellowships with the opposite sex. I am a man who counts many women among my friends and the thought of sex never enters into the equation. But I digress, you desired a w...

AA is merely exercising it's own free will to exhort it's members to choose a certain path. Whether the members chose to heed this advice is also freewill. Why choose AA? A chance at a healthy hopeful life.

Re: Why am I the nail right now

Hello my friend, I read your story with sadness and pity. If I may...AA is a tremendous organisation and we all know of it's successes, but they are not doctors. With all due respect there are organic medical conditions that no amount of AA is going to cure. Could a visit to an MD be in order? All l...

Re: Group made a decision, one member refusing to respect it

As a newcomer, I have been to 22 different meetingplaces and this certainly is something I have not seen. Has anyone? Obvious point here but could a quiet, respectful conversation with her by some of the elders? Is she open to criticism or is she one of the my or the highway types? Good Luck

Wow Brock I am new to AA but I am capable of walking and chewing gum at the same time. Extreme example: I see a choking man. I know the Heimlich. I am in recovery...a new member of a noble society,,,but I need to worry about cleaning up myself before I help this unfortunate soul in front of me. What...

When I came in I said very good I will stop smoking as well, which in the rooms was common in those days. People just said forget the smoking, you are here for help with drinking, I did stop smoking some years after. If they could give me the good advise of forget the smoking, I can surely tell you...

Re: Two Types of Alcoholics ?

I found that, perhaps because of the writing style, that I could not relate to a lot of the big book. I would say that I never drank unless I wanted to, but then at some level I always wanted to. However I have known folks who found themselves drinking even when they desparately did not want to. Or...
