Denial.

Denial gets talked about a lot but I had no idea how deeply intertwined with alcoholism it is until just recently. It seems an alcoholic brain will tell an alcoholic anything just to have a drink. For me it is sneaky and just seems to be at the edge waiting for a chance. I thought I was going well b...

Re: Parties.

My tools. It was a street party. I carried around a dietcoke in a small glass so it could have contained anything. I ate too much chocolate but big whoop. I moved around a lot so when I sneaked home it wasn't obvious.
I have another party tonite but the host is a sober member of 30 years.

Parties.

I went to an annual Christmas party last night. It was awful but I didn't drink. I find parties long and hard work. People say mean things about each other and after about half an hour I want to shriek with boredom. I used drink in the past for something to do. I snuck away at around 930pm. :-)

Re: I'm sorry to say

This forum helps me a lot. It is hard at first but just keep trying. People at meetings are the same as people out of meetings. Some you will like and some not so much. Remember though, most people at AA are trying to get and stay sober. It is good to read your post. I am over 6 weeks sober and this...

Re: Question

Hi lonelymango, this is an interesting discussion. My fave book on the subject of closed mind or challenging a persons dominant paradigm is Les Mis by Victor Hugo. It highlights how far we are willing to go to protect our beliefs and how initially devastating a challenge can be to them. In order to ...

Re: I'm sorry to say

Alcoholism is strange. I fought like mad for the "right" to get drunk and wreck my life. Life looks different after the alcohol has left my body. Life is better without alcohol, not great but better. X

Re: What does it mean to put principles before personalities

For me it means keeping my eyes on the reason I am doing something and not getting side tracked. It works particularly at work. Sticking to our core values and not getting confused or diluted by opinions. I am 50 days sober and like this saying. I think it is about leaving my ego at the gate at work.

Re: What Makes A Meeting Great?

I have been going to a lunch time ID meeting in town which has a 5 min max. The chairperson waves a "one min left" sign at 4 mins. I like this meeting and I think it is great.

I love that it is "a simple program for complicated people"
Dont pick up a drink or an unprescibed drug for today.
Thanks.

Re: am I still sober if?

I dont know. I think I just want to be perfect. Like not drink coffee or eat sugar and get up at 4am and run for an hour and never procrastinate and have a perfectly tidy house and.. and... and.... :-)

am I still sober if?

Am I still sober if I take pain pills as directed? Am I still sober if I eat large amounts of chocolate? Am I still sober if I take a diet pill? How good do I have to be?

Re: question on holiday time.

thanks. I am in Australia and there is one street party I am dreading but I also know after a few hours I can sneak off and no one will notice because they will be too drunk. Its just when I arrive. I think I will arrive with a drink in my hand and no one will care what I am drinking as long as I h...

Re: Difficult to practice spiritual principles @ home?

Hi lonely mango. I have 25 days up. I agree with you. I heard in a meeting to pray before I react and or talk to someone I trust before I decide to go in with both guns blazing. (metaphorically) They dont have to live with our people though. (wink) MM from Australia. x
