Re: Felt like a moron after my share today

That's such an impacting story. It's something I'd rather listen and pay attention to than just Expletive about work. We can learn something from your story. Also, the main reason I wanted to comment was because I'm also the quiet one in the back. The more I go to some meetings and see the same peop...

Re: Unmanageable?

I totally see what you mean, Mike. I too, have a problem with Step 1. I'm the only one who thought it was time for detox and to stop drinking completely; and I feel like it doesn't credit me for anything I've had the power, strength, and courage to do on my own. My life was at a point where it was b...

Re: When/ How do I get a Sponsor?

Another sponsor comment. I do not know why this keeps coming up, but I like it. I think it takes a mega strong veteran to be a sponsor, someone who knows and can fight the battle with all their heart. I feel like the people who have approached me to be my sponsor are more in it for themselves and "...

Re: When/ How do I get a Sponsor?

I am sure you are not doing anything wrong, and I agree that some AA literature can be a bit vague, especially those leaflets. It's got to do with the tradition of suggesting instead of instructing, alcoholics don't usually like to be told do this and do that. You could in a meeting just put your h...

Re: When/ How do I get a Sponsor?

I wrote this on another thread for you... Just go to a lot of meetings and look for people who really speak to your heart, who have what you want! If you find someone ask if they have gone through the 12 step with a sponsor - if they have ASK THEM... WE need a guide, not a guru. We are all just cha...

When/ How do I get a Sponsor?

I'm coming up on 30 days sober, and I think I go to a lot of meetings (every other day on average), and I hear the word "sponsor" nonstop. I read the booklet about obtaining a sponsor and it was very vague. All I got out of it was to choose a female sponsor (seeing as I'm female). But how do I reall...

Re: Struggling Newcomer

Recovery is tough. Just know that you're not the only one struggling alone. I'm coming up on my 30 days, but I don't have a sponsor. I try to think of sober days like a winning streak...the more I keep up the more I'm winning. It's kind of silly I know, and it doesn't always work, but I really try t...

I'm also trying to find a sponsor. It's a lot more difficult than it seems.

Re: Step 10 and a dry drunk??

Thank you all for your replies, I really appreciate it. I am 16 months in the fellowship and 8 months sober - and therein lies my answer. I think that my expectations (oh dear) have been way too high and I am letting little things get to me. I have been clinging to 'this too shall pass' and it was ...

Re: What's the point of meetings?

For me it's gaining the knowledge and learning the experience of people who share. I always enter with an open mind...sometimes I leave happy, sometimes the same as when I came in, sometimes crappy...every meeting's different in its own way. I found it best to stay open and go to different meetings,...

Re: whats 13th stepping

:D :D :D There is another saying in AA. " If you like everyone you meet in AA, then you are not going to enough meetings." Listen, I don't mean to be negative or to be dis-couraging but people are people no matter where they are. We are not bad people trying to get good, we are sick people trying t...

Re: Another newbie here

Welcome, you are young and so you have the opportunity now to overcome the raw need to drink aspect of the daily drinker and the mental stuff is the hardest and the part that is the struggle. Seems like your desire and efforts will pay off and I know it is hard and yet this is part of changing our ...

Re: Another newbie here

Detox lasted 5 days and then I was home...home again and drinking again. I thought just a pint would do it. Yep, Just a pint. Have you read the story Fred the Accountant? They wrote the story in 1939 to illustrate the peculiar mental twist we ALL go leading up to the first drink. Thats the main pro...

Another newbie here

Hello everyone! My name is Elizabeth, and I'm an alcoholic. I normally just go by "E". I'm 17 days sober. It doesn't seem like much of an accomplishment, but when I think back I hadn't been more than 2 days sober since 2012! I try actively going to meetings in my area- but I can't drive, so sometime...
